This has been our go-to hotel for years due to its convenient location close to my family. We traveled with our kids and my service animal, as we have on previous visits (same situation, different dog). I always notify the hotel in advance that I will be arriving with a service animal.
The woman who checked us in was very kind and accommodating and was able to place us in a larger room. The room was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. My daughter initially slept on the pull-out couch, but after the first night chose to sleep directly on the couch as the springs were uncomfortable. Breakfast, as always, was great.
That said, this is the second visit in a row where we have had an uncomfortable interaction with night staff regarding my service animal. On a prior visit, I was asked about my medical condition, which is not permitted. On this visit, when we returned on Christmas Eve, the night clerk asked if my dog was a service animal, and I confirmed that he was. She then stated, in a very abrupt tone, that he was required to wear a vest per hotel policy. While I understand and respect hotel policies, service animals are not federally required to wear vests, and that requirement cannot be enforced by a private business.
I complied with the request, but the tone used when addressing both me and my husband was unnecessarily harsh. My service animal typically only wears his vest when we are out in public to prevent interaction, and at that point in the evening (after 8
