This property is the true essence of a Host'd experience and we can promise you that you'll never want to leave!

And while The Highland feels wonderfully elevated and tucked away, the beach is only moments from your door. Head down from Takutai Terrace along Golf Links Road and, within minutes, you can be standing on one of Hokitika’s most peaceful stretches of remote coastline. The south side beach feels beautifully remote and untouched, making it perfect for long walks, fresh sea air, and quiet moments beside the Tasman Sea. There are also some lovely little bush walks nearby, so you can easily move between coast, native greenery, and the comforts of home.

The Highland is all yours to enjoy during your stay, with complete private access to the home, outdoor spaces and parking.

There is a second, fully self-contained dwelling located discreetly behind the main house, where the owner, Matt, is currently staying while he prepares to join Shelly in Australia. The two homes are completely separate, and your privacy is very important to us.

Matt is usually out working during the day and home in the evenings. He's incredibly respectful of guests' space, but it's also reassuring to know that if you ever need a hand or have a question during your stay, help is close by.

Matt and Shelly have poured so much love into creating The Highland, and they're delighted to be able to share it with guests while this exciting new chapter begins.

Perched high on the ridge just four minutes from Hokitika township, The Highland - Sunset Ridge was designed to make the most of its incredible outlook. As the day draws to a close, sink into one of the two oversized lounge chairs, glass in hand, and watch the sky transform as the sun sets across the surrounding landscape. It’s a view you’ll never tire of.

Inside, every space has been carefully considered. Sleeping up to six guests across three beautifully appointed bedrooms, there’s room for families, friends, or couples travelling together without ever feeling crowded.

At the heart of the home is a warm and welcoming living area centred around a cosy fireplace, perfect for cooler West Coast evenings. Whether you’re sharing a meal, curling up with a book, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, the home invites you to slow down and stay awhile.

Movie lovers will quickly claim the incredible media nook, complete with a large television and sumptuous seating that’s almost impossible to leave once you’ve settled in. Every modern convenience has been thoughtfully included, creating a home that’s as practical as it is beautiful.

Outside, generous entertaining spaces make the most of the fresh West Coast air, with comfortable outdoor seating and plenty of room to unwind. The property also offers excellent off-street private parking, making it an easy base for exploring Hokitika, the Wild West Coast, nearby beaches, the Hokitika Gorge, and the Southern Alps.
