Just six kilometres from Rethymno’s Venetian Old Town, Casa dell’Aristea is a rare 15th-century manor where history is not merely preserved, but quietly lived. Following a meticulous restoration, this registered historic residence has been returned to its original architectural character, with its distinctive Venetian details thoughtfully revived. Spanning 360m² of atmospheric indoor living, the manor accommodates up to 16 guests across seven individually styled rooms, suites and maisonettes.

At the heart of the residence, a generous stone courtyard unfolds around a private swimming pool, a shaded dining pergola, a fully appointed open-air kitchen and a collection of inviting lounge areas overlooking the sea and the distant Fortezza of Rethymno. Rooted in local artistry, family heritage and the enduring legend of Aristea, the residence offers an evocative passage into Venetian Crete, thoughtfully balanced with the comforts of contemporary living.

Throughout the estate, each of the seven distinctive sleeping retreats preserves its own individual character. Timber beams, historic textures, traditional furnishings and carefully selected decorative pieces evoke the manor’s past, while modern amenities have been discreetly incorporated to ensure a comfortable and effortless stay.

The house takes its name from Aristea, its former lady, remembered for the stories and traditions she shared with her grandchildren. Among them was the tale of a benevolent fairy who lived within the house and watched over its children, a graceful figure dressed in flowing white silk, with long hair crowned by a delicate wreath of flowers.

- From the courtyard, views extend towards the sea and the distant silhouette of Rethymno’s Fortezza, creating a visual connection between the residence and the Venetian heritage of the wider region. The courtyard is conceived not merely as an outdoor amenity, but as the social heart of the manor, a place for lingering breakfasts, unhurried conversations, reading beneath the shade and evenings coloured by the changing Cretan sky. - A series of lounge settings allows the space to move naturally between sociable and private moments. An outdoor living-room arrangement and generous lounge sofa create a relaxed setting for evening drinks, while eight additional poufs provide flexible seating throughout the grounds.
- A smaller courtyard shelters the tiny chapel of Saint George, one of the manor’s most distinctive and meaningful features. Intimate marriage ceremonies may be held within the chapel, while the larger courtyard may accommodate wedding receptions, private gatherings and small events during the summer months, subject to prior arrangement.

The interiors of Casa dell’Aristea unfold as a collection of seven individually styled accommodations rather than a series of identical bedrooms. Original wooden beams, preserved architectural details, warm natural materials and delicate references to the past give every space its own atmosphere. The restoration respects the building’s irregularities and historic character, allowing each room, suite and maisonette to retain a distinct relationship with the original manor. Contemporary comforts have been thoughtfully incorporated without overwhelming the historic setting. Each accommodation features a natural, anti-allergic Coco-Mat mattress, a small kitchenette corner with a refrigerator and tea- and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning and a safety deposit box. Bathrobes, slippers, a hairdryer and personal bathroom amenities are also provided.
