«My room was very old and in poor condition. I found trash under the tv cabinet, the cabinet was scotch taped on the top edges, stained carpet, the sliding glass door was filthy. I was shocked at the condition of my room. Then the back door I had to enter thru was broken and didn't lock which worried me for safety purposes because it backed up to woods and was not well lit.»

«We had an absolutely excellent stay! The rooms are amazing, super clean, super big which was excellent with my 5 year old, comfy beds. From check in to check out we could not have had a better stay.. except 2 things and it was absolutely not a deal breaker. 1. Have pay for parking 2. Have to pay for wi-fi. So many other hotels have both free. If not going to be free, it needs to be better stated when making reservations.»

«It is a lovely hotel. The room was new and well-appointed with some of the old bank building charm. It's upscale while being quaint and comfortable. We were on the 4th floor. The room had amazing upper windows. Very cool! The staff was lovely. Very accommodating and friendly. The location is ideal, right in the middle of town. We were very happy to stumble upon the Promissory Hotel!»

«I do not suggest this hotel. We chose it for the price since the others in the area wanted $300+ (high for a quick stay to break up a drive) and per usual, you get what you pay for. It was dirty, run-down, odd characters hung around the lobby, we turned on the water in the sink and the pipe below burst out water all over the carpet. Look for newer hotels if staying in the Roanoke, VA area. »

We visited several local restaurants and the transportation museum because of the informational packet within the unit. «Stayed 1 night, May 16 to morning of May 17, 2026. Unfortunately I can't give a good review due to the event that occurred. At 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday the fire alarm went off disturbing all guests in the building. Apparently, according to hotel staff, there was some condition in the boiler room that caused the alarm to go off. The fire department came and did their investigation. No apparent fire deterant was used. The alarm was still going on every few minutes, even after the fire trucks ...
