We recently stayed here for Thanksgiving. Leading up to the day of arrival, we received warm and welcoming messages from the owner which influenced further anticipation of our trip. The property is just as it is pictured on VRBO, newly renovated, very clean, and well-stocked with towels, kitchen supplies, and toiletries. There was even a bottle of champagne in the fridge.
A couple of days into the trip, we were asked a favor by the owners to add more water to the pool which we willingly did. Later that afternoon, I received another message from the owner, stating " I noticed you had extra guests stay at the house. Having extra guests is not allowed without prior agreement." The owners go on to say how it's clearly stated and that we need to pay an extra fee via text message. I began to panic because I was certain I made the reservation for four and not two and it’s two days before Thanksgiving. I searched for my reservation and sure enough, it was for four and not two. If you are going to accuse renters of something, I strongly encourage gathering all the details.
On Thanksgiving, I received another message about remembering to turn the garage light off. Having a rental property myself, I would never think to bother renters about turning lights off, especially on a holiday. I also find it very strange and disturbing that the owners were spending Thanksgiving monitoring the surveillance.
As stated in the beginning, the house is newly renovated and very clean, however, what isn't newly renovated and very clean is the neighborhood. It's a far cry from family-friendly and it's very rundown. Being spied on and bothered just about every day with messages is something I will not sign up for again.
