From the moment I started to communicate with Mike and Karen to rent this beautiful ocean front home, I was impressed. The settlement of Pelican Point with Reverend Freddy [and the other locals there] was very friendly. He is a true historian for the area. This made our stay just that much better. We spent hours beach combing, fishing from the skiff, swimming, and exploring in the Durango. To see where the Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed... too cool. Each settlement or small town had it's own charm as we drove to the east end of the island. True, you do need to pick up groceries, but the Rev. sent his son Freddy Jr.to pick us up at the airport, and after a grocery store visit we were at the house by 4pm. The weather was perfect and we were so lucky to spend 2 glorious weeks there. We ate snapper[ that we caught ourselves], lobster tail and had fresh coconut everyday. If you want to eat out, Bahama Johns is right down the beach. Dynamite Bahama MAMAs there, as well as Conch, Ribs etc.etc. So Yummy. We of course went to Freeport more than once for shopping, exploring etc etc. This was a breeze in the durango. We met couples from Toronto, and Ohio in the settlement staying in homes there too. It is so private and quiet there. If that is what you're looking for....it's the place for you. As I manage a busy Pre/Post/Recovery area in a large hospital and my husband is an Engineer, this was true Paradise for us. Thanks to Mike and Karen for being so easy and wonderful to work with. Karen and I have become fast E-mail buddies. It's been great.
Greg and I are already trying to plan for another mission there next year.
Sincerely...Cindy Barr
