Established in the historic district in the Town of Pawleys Island and perfectly nestled between the beach and marsh, The Whelk provides you and your guests with a prime oceanfront location for exploring all the excellent activities, beach, kayaking in the creek, shopping, dining, and sightseeing of the local area. This private home is also a wonderful option for lounging, entertaining, celebrating, reuniting, and most importantly, relaxing.
To easily stock for your visit, great selections for groceries, drinks, baked goods, and supplies are just five minutes from the house. The Publix and Lowes Foods Super Market are best for groceries, wine, and baked goods, the Fresh Market has a selection of curated products for unique and custom cooking. For wine and beer aficionados, stop by Pawleys Wine and Spirits on Ocean Highway for a comprehensive selection.
Your kitchen is fully stocked with updated appliances, cookware, tableware, and glassware so preparing meals and entertaining your guests are a breeze. Ample seating is available at the dining and counter tables as well as on the two screened outdoor private porches. After a meal, enjoy your favorite streaming show or some cable programming including over 120 channels in the two comfy living rooms.
The Whelk bedrooms feature crisp linens, fresh pillows, and updated furniture for excellent rest and relaxation during your trip. The mattresses are extremely comfortable and often praised by our guests.
The master suite offers a king bed arrangement with an ultra-comfort plush material to provide you with a restful night of sleep. A daybed is also available for reading a book or having an extra sleeper by the spectacular marsh views. In the morning, enjoy your private balcony to the views, sounds, and fresh air of the Atlantic Ocean or enjoy a moment on the lounge chair inside the room for a cooler experience. The marsh between the Island and mainland is a great spot for watching beautiful birds, the ebb and flow of the tide will provide you with a peaceful setting for anytime during the day.
The second bedroom provides one (1) queen bed and two (2) twin beds, this bedroom is at the back of the front house, providing a quiet and relaxing place with the sounds of the waves in the background. The third bedroom hosts one (1) queen bed at the front of the house, with beautiful trees around it and the front porch beside it, for beautiful views of the marsh anytime. On the lower level, the fourth bedroom presents one (1) queen bed and two (2) twin beds. The fifth bedroom offers two (2) twin beds.
If your group needs to minimize the use of stairs, the two ground floor bedrooms offer easy access and convenience. On the ground floor, your living room offers a 43” TV, daybed, a sectional couch, a card table, and a laundry room/kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave.
If traveling with little ones, two Pack & Play pens and two highchairs are also provided.
Breakfast and brunch options are plenty with great choices all across Pawleys Island. One of the best-known spots is the Rustic Table in downtown Pawleys, just minutes from the The Whelk. If your looking for something more casual, BisQit is another great choice. Packed house? Get Carried Away is another excellent option to cater your meals, also just minutes from the house.
Following a full day of exploring, gather the group for an evening of celebration in your private cabana overlooking the expansive ocean views. The limited public access makes your backyard your private beach, lots of unique shells, shark teeth's, and the famous Pawleys shell can be found here. The front porches are excellent for a quick board game or just soaking in a Carolina sunset with cocktails and gourmet snacks. For the star gazers, bounce between the front and back of the house, a clear night sky is memorable and for all ages, if you stare at the sky long enough, you may catch a sight of a falling star.
For another exploration day in the town, take a quick 20-minute drive to Brookgreen Gardens, the largest outdoor sculpture garden in the country. Have kids? Bring them too, they will have a blast at the children’s section and zoo. Spend an afternoon in Georgetown, one of the oldest towns and 20-minute ride away. In downtown Georgetown is Front Street, with fine local shops and great restaurant options on the water. Take a historic walking tour or ride with a local guide to learn about the treasures of this historic area.
To help you prepare for a night out, The Whelk features five (5) full bathrooms (and three water heaters…). Fluffy towels and a complete set of bath linens are present, and the house also includes a stackable washer and dryer and a washer dryer set for laundering any linens or clothing during your stay. Iron, ironing board, and hairdryers are also included.
Pawleys Island and its surrounding areas provide excellent drink lounges and restaurants featuring an endless list of styles, options, and tastes. For drinks outdoors, Franks Outback is a fantastic choice near The Whelk House and only a 5-minute ride. For dinner in the area, Bistro 217, Chive Blossom, Frank's, and GIOs are local favorites.
Following an evening out, a day at the spa is another convenient option for The Whelk guests. Visit the Wellness Cottage by STOX & CO. to immerse yourself in a spa retreat, for a brief experience enjoy a 60 minute massage or facial treatment, if you are looking for Spa Day indulge yourself to one of the Wellness Rituals. After services enjoy a curated selection of products and gifts. The Wellness Cottage is located in downtown Pawleys just 5 minutes away and you and your guests receive an exclusive offer with your rental at The Whelk. While half the group takes a spa day, the other half can enjoy a multitude of golf and links courses.
