  • Kookaburra Cottage is a 1990s weatherboard cabin at the Fern Gulley Retreat private nature reserve on the banks of the Blackwood River in Nannup. Simple yet functional, the magic of the cabin is the expansive verandah that overlooks the Blackwood — teeming with wildlife and humming with the sounds of the Australian bush. Guests have their own one bedroom private cabin with everything required for a restful, relaxing retreat. This is quintessential Nannup — low key, quiet luxury in nature.

The bed side tables had not been wiped down. Spills still visible. There was a bath tub but in the confirmation email the day before we arrived said due to water restrictions only to be used for showers. Stained towels and crockery. No microwave. Has an air fryer. Great location, lots of birds and animals. Bed was very comfortable. Good heating. Pleasant stay altogether

The cottage was absolutely wonderful. There was an issue with the host using an app not available in australia so had some check in issues, but the helpdesk sorted this out for me with a single phone call.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is beautiful, cosy, and full of character, with a lovely old-style charm. The veranda overlooking the bush and river was especially peaceful and made it the perfect place to relax and unwind.Unfortunately, the kitchen let the experience down. The only frying pan provided was a non-stick pan with the coating heavily scratched and peeling, to the point that it felt rough and furry to the touch, so we weren’t comfortable using it. The salt and pepper containers were oily and clumped together, and we also found bugs in the instant coffee. In addition, the bed sheets had a few small stains when we arrived.These are all relatively simple issues to address, but together they made the kitchen and overall cleanliness feel below the standard we’d expected. With a bit more attention to the condition of the cookware, pantry items, and linen, this would be an excellent place to stay.Overall, it’s a lovely property in a beautiful, peaceful location, and we hope these issues are addressed because it has so much potential.

A Beautiful Location

Best part was the wildlife. Accommodation was tired but adequate with some expected items lacking. Needs a big renovation and revamp. No microwave so had to heat my coffee on stove(brought my own pod machine) Oven machine needed lifting out into the bench to connect to the power. No instructions of how to use it.Needs renovation and modernisation.
