Welcome to the Fitzgerald-Vaught House, a historic home full of character and creative charm. Once home to a Kennedy relative and a local artist, this distinctive property is filled with stories—from a rumored visit by Jackie Kennedy to a custom privacy fence made from repurposed concrete. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath retreat is just a 5-minute drive to downtown Montgomery, sports venues, restaurants, and nightlife. A perfect home base to explore the city—book today and fully enjoy every moment!

Capitol Heights is a charming neighborhood located in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama. With its rich history and central location, Capitol Heights is a perfect destination for those looking to experience the city's vibrant culture and attractions. The neighborhood is home to a mix of historic homes and modern apartments, many of which have been beautifully restored to their original charm. From the leafy streets to the friendly residents, Capitol Heights offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes visitors feel right at home. With its close proximity to downtown Montgomery, residents and visitors alike can easily access the city's top attractions, such as the Alabama State Capitol, the Rosa Parks Museum, and the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, to name just a few. Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, Capitol Heights is the ideal place to stay and explore all that Montgomery has to offer.

Use the front or back yard or enjoy any space in the house. You may access any space inside other than the locked supply cabinets. This home has an electronic lock on the front door.

Take in the historic charm right on the front porch of this beautiful home! Quite a bit of love and care went into the restoration of this property. We really took great pride in the details. The home includes
a designer kitchen, three spacious bedrooms, and renovated bathrooms including a clawfoot tub! We want you to enjoy yourself throughout the space including the private area in the back of the home.

Driving or taking an Uber is the best way to get around Montgomery.

Weekend Stay

Our stay was ok! Didn’t know much about the neighborhood when I booked. Didn’t feel as safe as I would have liked in the neighborhood and house. Outside area including front porch and outdoor furniture needs to be cleaned. Horrible odor in the house. Inside of home was clean. I feel the price at this time is high for the area.

A beautiful property

I traveled to Montgomery with three friends and we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The property is a short drive away from downtown Montgomery with all of the museums, the capital, coffee, shops, restaurants and more. The house itself is exquisite, a beautifully restored vintage home with beautiful details and gorgeous design. Kudos to the restoration team and the decorator. The beds were especially comfortable.

the vaught house

The house Interior was spacious and clean and well supplied. The exterior needs help. The back yard is overgrown with weeds and there is an empty old garage that is falling down. Parkling is on a busy street that is a too narrow for parked cars. The front porch needs to be repainted. Did not like getting a seperate rental agreement from an unknown sender to be signed before I could get check-in info.

Second Stay

Stayed in this location last summer and enjoyed it so much that when I returned last week to see Bonnie Raitt in concert……..I immediately booked this place again! It’s in the heart of the vibrant downtown and having lived in the neighborhood in the early 90’s its feels like home.

Older home

The house was clean but had older home problems. You had to warn everyone when you showered because if anyone turned on any water elsewhere your shower pressure plummeted and the temperature changed drastically. We like to cook when we get together but only did so once because the pots and pan selection was awful and they needed to put shelf paper in the bottom cabinets that were raw plywood and nasty. The rest of the house was clean and nice and communication with the host was good.

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay at the Fitzgerald-Vaught house. The rooms were clean and spacious, the neighborhood close to downtown, and the hosts thorough and helpful. Wifi is good! Lovely neighborhood. As senior citizens, we could have used some form of stability/handle for getting in and out of the bathtub shower in the front bathroom. This being our first visit to Montgomery, I will say that we were impressed with the hospitality, history, and museums of the city. Thank you for providing a comfortable, well-appointed setting for a delightful visit.

Perfection

Whoever was designated to decorate the property…….understood the assignment! The most perfect example of mid-century modern decor AND more impressive is the fact that the pieces are authentic and not West Elm. The location is perfect to downtown and historic in its own right. The neighborhood would be considered “transitional” but NEVER felt unsafe and the locals were very friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and plan to stay again my next time visiting.

Civil Rights in Alabama

We spent 3 days in Alabama visiting Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma. Montgomery was our home base and this property was great. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, well located and a wonderful place to return each evening after a busy day of site-seeing. The property manager was available, if needed. But frankly, everything worked out so well, we didn't need to be in contact except for checking in and checking out. Thanks!
