NO NO NO… Do NOT book this hotel. I had this hotel booked for was supposed to be a nice family outing in Monterey. Despite its many good reviews, the Red Roof Inn was a total disaster. Pulling into the parking lot we noticed people out in the dark smoking ciga-weed. I overlooked that and checked in. We parked in front of our room. The room next door had BMX style bike out front upside down in there seat and handles bars. Like people were coming and going. As soon as we entered our room it smelled like the beds have been peed on for years. The smell was so bad we went to open the windows and noticed they were already open. Every window in the unit was open and we were not made aware of this. The window latches did not function properly and this is a first floor unit. After all this, we decided we could not stay in this room. I went to the front desk and told the person working that we cannot stay there and described the situation to him. He did not offer us a different room and only stated that leaving the windows open was normal practice for them after they cleaned the rooms. There was no refund given, but at this point, our safety and peace of mind was more important. Not to mention there is a liquor store on the corner. We are not a bougie family and we’ve stayed at places in the area before and had a good experience. This is a place. I would definitely not recommend.
