Medina - Chefchaouen, Morocco
It is known for the blue washed walls and doorways in the old city. Narrow alleys, cobbled walkways, stairs up and down, leading in all directions.

Chefchaouen's powder blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky - but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God's power. The tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

The walls are adorned with carpets, purses, blankets, paintings and much more. It was quite an adventure to get lost in the tiny lanes and alleys and discover the many berber shops and products.

«The Guest House was fantastic. The road leading up to the guest house left you doubting how the guest house would be. However, the guest house itself along with the staff and the facilities are exceptional. Very nicely kept, great sized rooms and great breakfast options in the morning make this a perfect stay option. It is a little bit of a distance from the Medina, but it was so peaceful and the views were exceptional. Overall A+++ experience. »

«I enjoyed my stay at Dar Al Ghazal. My room was a separate cabin-style room, with air conditioning, heating and a comfortable bed. The weather was bad when I was in Tangier so I spent more time in the room. The staff were helpful and courteous and made me free coffee and cookies on a number of occastions. The breakfast was delicious and came in two courses. I want to say thank you to Rada, who was very helpful and told me places to go. On the second day I had to work online and I was able to do ...

«Nestled into a great location on the hillside of Chefchaouen’s beautiful blue Medina, this Riad is a hidden gem. Staff were extremely helpful, the rooms and decor were modern and unique but also felt very Moroccan. Everything was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was generous and delicious, and I only wish we’d had more time in the city to enjoy dinner at their restaurant or relax and take in the stunning view from their rooftop patio.
