The property was what we hoped. The issue we had was not typical but it maybe worth noting. After our stay we noticed we had left an expensive jacket behind. After many failed attempts to reach the hotel we have accepted the loss. After unanswered emails and lengthy times on hold and finally speaking to someone we were asked to call back the next day. We followed their direction and called the next day. Unfortunately that was the last time we had any communications with the hotel. We called many different times of the day to be put on hold then never answered. The hotel was not busy at all due to low season. We felt this was a chance to provide an exceptional service when it was really needed. The Douro Scala failed. Our request seemed beyond their capabilities. We simply needed to talk with someone.
