Loved staying at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta OH. Everything about it was great except for dinner Sunday night at hotel restaurant. Had a bad experience with being seated and about 45 minutes of not being approached we left. Had this not happened I would have given our experience 5 stars for our stay. Definitely will go back again.

Very charming old-time hotel. Its location is perfect, on the river. The lounge has delicious food. The only drawback is that it's very noisy. Because the building is so old it echoes the noise.

We liked our unique room, and the downtown location. Easy to walk around to restaurants or sights. River walk is right there. Austyn's restaurant (wonderful) is right across the street. Nice that the hotel has bar and restaurant inside - especially on this rainy weekend. The service and atmosphere in the bar was not great, though. Staff always seemed to be somewhere else when we walked up, whether it was the bar, the coffee shop, or restaurant. The room was interesting, but also quite small - as we expected. Not great for bigger people or for a long stay. No real space to unpack. However, the historic nature of the place was our reason for coming, and getting away from the standard hotel room.

The restaurant was understaffed and we had limited choices in town due to most restaurants were closed on Sunday. We had to go elsewhere which disappointed us as we we’re looking forward to dinner in the historic tavern

We unfortunately had a staffing issue that evening with some call offs and unfortunately not able to get everyone in the spot they needed to be that evening. The hotel was in a convenient location and was nicely decorated for the time period. My room, No. 205, was small and the bathroom was very clean, but interesting. Note: If you sit on the toilet, your left leg will be under the sink! I could hear traffic sounds and loud thuds during the night that sounded like old hotel noises. I heard nothing through the walls. I thought the bed was very uncomfortable. Due to traffic sounds, thudding and the mattress, I didn't get a good night's sleep. I ate in the restaurant. Though the service was very slow (one server) the food was good and plentiful. A free "standard" breakfast is available, or there are alternate choices. The hotel has its own parking lot, but I chose to park in a small public lot just across the street next to a small park and walking trail along the Ohio River.

One of the better historical hotels we’ve stayed at. Marietta is our go to weekend getaway but we’ve never stayed at the Lafayette. Staff was nice but could use a bit more personality. They really can set the tone for your visit.

History but not comfort
I tried both beds as neither one was very comfortable. There was a sag in both and probably need to be replaced. Housekeeping staff were friendly. The front desk tried to be helpful but it was like pulling teeth. The bar tender was a bit gruff. The food was good. If you want history, this is the place to stay. My room overlooked the Ohio river and that is why I came to Marietta.

Enjoyed the stay, staff were excellent, the hotel is beautiful. The only suggestion i might have is, the rooms are small, this is a old hotel. Two people should upscale to larger rooms.

Historic Gem
We enjoyed our stay at the Lafayette, and truly plan to return soon. While some areas of the hotel could use a refresh, we found it part of the charm of this historic gem. Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. We enjoyed walking through and seeing the different artifacts, learning about the history of the building and Marietta. Dinner in the Riverfront Bar & Grille was delicious, as was our breakfast in the The Gun Room.
