Views on views
Very cute cabin right by the shore of Lake Superior. Tucked away in the woods but close to Lutsen and Grand Marais. We’ll be back and have already recommended this place to several co-workers and friends.

Beautiful View
If you are looking for great North Shore location with a perfect private view of Lake Superior, this is it. Cozy cabin with all the amenities. Close to several state parks. We enjoyed our stay!

A slice of heaven
One of the most charming places I have ever had the pleasure of staying. I saw a review from someone who stayed previously that said there was "too much stuff" in the cabin. I couldn't disagree more! It was homey and charming with little touches that made you know it has been well loved for generations. We sat in front of the fireplace and played board games. The sound of the crashing waves lulled us to sleep. We literally never wanted to leave and will DEFINATELY be back. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Directions to the cabin were straightforward and check in was a breeze. The host was very quick to respond to any questions we had. It really is a lovely, lovely piece of North Shore heaven.

Cluttered mess at the best. Just because it is a cabin, doesn't mean it needs to be filled to the brim with "stuff". A 30 year old apartment refrigerator in the porch?

It's a charming cabin, very clean, and well maintained. I enjoyed the retro decorating style. Although it sleeps 6, as the photos show there aren't private bedrooms and the bathroom and kitchenette are quite small. It is perfect for a small family, or may a couple of friends to share. The southern view of lake is beautiful. We watched the sunrise and sunset.

GIRLS TRIP
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL VIEWS OF THE LAKE. WE ENJOYED HAVING COFFEE AND VIEWING THE LAKE. EVERYTHING WE NEEDED WAS THERE. CLOSE TO MANY ATRACTIONS. VERY CLEAN. THE BATHROOM COULD USE A LITTLE BIT BIGGER.

Wonderful Late Summer Visit to Lichen Cabin
We enjoyed our 6th terrific stay at Lichen Cabin. The cabin is comfortable, beautiful, and just feet from marvelous Lake Superior. We love to walk out and watch the waves on the rocks. There was a spectacular full moon while we were there. We look forward to returning. It is also an easy drive to many area attractions, Grand Marais, Superior Trail hiking destinations and the Gunflint Trail.

Sweet little family cabin
It was so great to have a little private rock beach spot on the lake. It's a fairly private cabin- there are trees between you and the neighbors. It's obviously a family cabin and very adorably decorated in that north woods cabin style. It's close to other activities and attractions. There is everything you need in the cabin and it is clean and well kept. I agree with other reviewers the bathroom is very small and the experience requires some mobility, so not the best for mobility impaired guests. But it was great and exactly what we were looking for. The beautiful picture windows looking out at the lake are perfect. We had fires, roasted marshmallows, and relaxed. I loved it. It was not a resort experience, but if you wanted a resort experience, you shouldn't be on this website.

Great location!
The location right on the lake was great. We were able to kayak right off the rocks. The driveway could be challenging during the winter or if it is rainy, we had all wheel drive so no problem for us.

Nostalgic North Shore Experience
We stayed here for 4 wonderful nights. We routinely VRBO cabins, but this one is the first one that makes us want to immediately book again for next year. The personal pictures and photo albums make it feel like home. The view of Lake Superior is perfect. The sound of waves can be heard with the windows open. The kids had a blast playing on the rocks (in life vests). All in all I think this has been our best “up north” experience and will definitely be return visitors.

Perfect location- steps from the lake, gorgeous views, secluded, close to Grand Marais. Adorable and quirky, the cabin had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. We didn’t want to leave!

Serene Cabin on Lake Superior
My husband, toddler, mother in law, and I had a wonderful few days here. The lake view can't be beat and we even saw the most beautiful double rainbow after a brief rain one evening. We had everything we needed for restful sleep and cozy cooking. Grand Marais is only a short drive away. The only thing I didn't realize was that two of the beds are right in the living space (this could be my fault for not reading closely!). It was totally fine and still very comfortable though. We would definitely come again!

Stellar location with smokey smell
LOVED the cabin, but it had an overwhelming smell of fireplace ashes/smoke even though the fireplace was clean. In order to make it tolerable, we covered the fireplace openeng by taping large plastic bags together.

Great North Shore getaway. Enjoyed the location. Can't beat the great view of the lake. Boys loved the rocks at shoreline. Bathroom is small, otherwise it was a great place to stay. Owner responds quickly to questions.

Authentic 1960's-style cabin
The property is an awesome blast from the past---with some updates! It definitely has the "up north" cabin vibes with lots of wood and stone, but with a brand new kitchen sink. It was a bit tricky to find the cabin from the road, and I had to hunt for the red door where the lock is, because it's kind of hidden from view as you pull up to the house. There is a refrigerator and freezer, a wonderful sitting area inside, beautiful deck that's very close to the lake, comfy beds, and good wifi. A an older couple, we used the two smaller downstairs beds, as the climb to the queen bed in the loft was up a ladder, which was just a little too steep for us two 66 year olds. It was lovely to have the lake so close by, and it was an easy drive to.Grand Marais and Lutsen.

Terrific location and view
The hike down to the cabin in the winter was slippery but the view incredible. There is an addition to the original cabin that consists of one large living room complete with a stone wood burning fireplace. The "end" which faces Lake Superior consists of three large picture windows; basically a wall of glass. What an incredible view of the lake which is only fifty feet away. Our first night the sky was filled with green Northern Lights. Can't say enough!

Wonderful honeymoon
Thanks for providing us with an amazing cabin for our honeymoon. Great views and comfortable accommodations. Thanks for sanding the trail in. It was snowy and icy. Only complaint was the water. Not the greatest tasting, but we are from Crooked River Ranch, Oregon and our water is #2 in the nation for taste. We will be back!!!!

Even better the second time!
We’ve never returned to a rental home except this one. This location is perfect for a weekend of skiing and snuggling by the fire. We appreciate the decluttering and updates like the new sink made it easier to prep food and clean up.

Lovely secluded Lake Superior cabin
This property is is a secluded pine cabin on the shore of Lake Superior. It is spacious with a view of the lake through a large picture window in the living room area. The furnishings were comfortable; the kitchen, though small was well stocked with cookware, utensils, dishes and condiments. You can explore the rocky shoreline or make trips to well know parks and trails. Grand Marais is about twenty minutes away. Our only concern was the steepness of the ladder/stair to the loft with the queen bed. It was difficult for us, a couple close to our eighties to negotiate. Despite this difficulty, we had an enjoyable stay.

This is our 6th wonderful visit
The location of the Lichen Cabin is just superb. The cabin is beautiful and cozy with a glorious view of the big lake. We were visited by an eagle , a kingfisher, hummingbirds, and a red squirrel. Berries were ripe. In short, it was heaven. As always we enjoyed trails and all the fun in Grand Marais. Already looking forward to next year.

Home Away From Home
This is a wonderful property with great lake access if your a person who's looking for peace and quiet and the most beautiful view. It was our honeymoon last year after 12 years being married and this home was perfect then and this year too, even tho it rained 2 1/2 days. Thank You RJ for sharing your awesome home! Beautiful and quiet.
The cabin feels very remote and beautiful to stay in. It is off the began path while still being close enough for good access to local attractions. The feel of this cabin and the check in process felt much more like using your uncles cabin for a weel, rather than a tourist trap. Nothing about the cabin is overly posh while still meeting all of the creator comforts expected in a weeklong getaway and then some.

Sweet charming cabin right on the lake
This cabin was so cozy and sweet with amazing lake views. The huge picture window overlooking Lake Superior was perfect for gazing out and the ever changing great lake! The fireplace was grand and made the space even more cozy. Beds were a little uncomfortable, but we made due. Since it was springtime and there was still snow and ice on the driveway, we did not want to chance getting stuck, so we walked our luggage and food down the steep, muddy, icy hill to the cabin. Not ideal, but once again, we made it work!!! Overall, a wonderful getaway for my husband and me at one of most favorite places on earth!!!!

Beautiful, Charming, Peaceful Spot
This was our second visit to this cabin. We love the nostalgic charm and the unbeatable view and sound of the waves. It was a rainy weekend so didn't get to take advantage of nearby hikes but made up for it by making good use of the fireplace. We'll be back.

I liked the big window to look out over the lake. I didn't like that the kitchen and bathroom were so tiny and there was some buzzing noise that kept going off making it hard to sleep. The smoke alarm battery went off and luckily we were able to pull the batteries out of a tv remote, otherwise it would have been beeping all night. There was no information packet so you had to figure out where to turn on different lights and the ROKU TV is crap.

Beautiful cabin Great location
Had the most amazing family trip! Close to great family skiing and hikes. The cabin is on a stunning piece of property & the history in the cabin is remarkable. It does not disappoint with the up north Vibe. The winter walk down to the cabin is extremely steep. We were warned... but couldn't imagine what we were getting into :) the walk is worth it! 100%! Just be ready! Absolutely stunning views & Beautiful firesfires made for a perfect cozy long weekend! Kitchen utensils are rough. Definitely bring a good pan and a sharp knife if you plan on cooking. We hope to visit again in another season! Thanks for sharing this gem of a cabin.

What a great stay!
You absolutely could no be any closer to the water (Lake Superior)! And there are really big picture windows to see it too. We loved it. February in MN. A blanket of snow and very, very cold. Perfect for sitting inside and burning wood in the oversized fireplace. We read, we ate, we drank and we stared at Lake Superior; watched waves, calm and the ice. Pretty amazing. Never saw another soul. Visited a couple of restaurants, went for some short snow hikes and traveled to go dogsledding. A great trip and a nice, cozy cabin/house.

Well-loved cabin family cabin on spectacular rocky shore!
Clearly loved and well cared for, with everything you need and more! Comfy beds, lots of room to spread out, with great spaces for reading, puzzles and game playing, and the view! Right on the water, lots of rocky shore to enjoy. Located off a spur road, so you get little or no noise from Hwy 61, and a safe road for a walk or bike ride. Others have commented on the bathroom being too small for "bigger" folks. Being a "bigger" person, I can attest that it was on the small side, but I was able to use it comfortably without any problems! The road down to the cabin is steep and a little bumpy, . but if you take it very slowly and carefully you should have no issues, even with a low to the ground car like ours!
