The hotel is going through a remodel. Despite that, it was dark and uninviting when we walked in. It was weird, because even the sitting area was dark (and wasn't under construction). The front desk clerk was stressed out, was expressing how difficult her night was going to be because they "suddenly sold out, catching the manager off guard so the hotel was under staffed". We arrived a little early, around 3:15, knowing check in was at 4:00. Instead of greeting us with a simple hello, can I help you", she states, before we even get to the counter, that "check in is at 4:00". I knew that, I just wanted to see if our room was ready. This was not an issue for us. The hotel smelled like a dirty, unbathed man. And a different smell on the 3rd floor...the crazy went on and on. The renovations were not the problem. Unprofessional staff, poor management, understaffed, and it felt unclean. We typically love Holiday Inn Express and have stayed in the brand for years. Hopefully, after the renovations, this property will be back to HIE standards. But for now, I do not recommend staying here if expecting the quality of most HIE properties. And I hate leaving bad reviews. Ugh...
