My wife’s parents got married in this property 70 years ago, so we decided to stay here as part of our family history trip. The building is from the 1700s but it has been updated and has a ton of charm. The key boxes were all checked: the bed was comfortable, it was quiet at night and the water pressure was good. A full welsh breakfast was included. We also had dinner in the restaurant. It was a bit pricey but tasty. The staff was wonderful: hard working and attentive. Would definitely stay here again.

Staff friendly and helpful, room very clean, easy parking. Room was at front next to busy road and traffic noise clearly heard (and town hall clock until 11pm). TV reception was poor and picture pixelated. Shower pressure was low.

Lovely hotel ideally placed for us to catch up with friends. The rooms were large, clean and modern. Tea/coffee and water available everyday in the room. Nice window seat to have a cuppa and people watch. Good choice and quality of food in the pub, friendly staff.

Great hotel in a great location for reaching nearby national trust properties or the seaside and coastal walks. All staff were friendly and helpful, they were especially kind and friendly with my 3 year old, providing small breakfasts and chatting to him. He didn’t want to leave! Food was great, which was good because there isn’t a lot of choice for evening meals in Lampeter. Room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Was great to have on site parking too.

The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was a little stuffy, but otherwise good. It would have been a nice touch to have 'real' coffee for breakfast rather than instant; filter coffee was on hand but at an extra charge.

Heart of Lampeter
The Black Lion Royal is an historical hotel at the heart of Lampeter and its community. The interior has been upgraded in modern taste and the restaurant and bar are a hub of Lampeter life. We stayed on one of the hottest days and nights of the year and staff readily provided a fan which quickly cooled our room and allowed us to sleep well. The cool shower was welcome after our hot journey but less appealing before breakfast. Our steak served in the restaurant was classic pub food, and the breakfast was freshly cooked to order and appealingly served. Lampeter is an historical university town with wartime links to Dylan Thomas and it provides a welcoming stopover in Ceredigion.

A Great Hotel in Lampeter
This is a very high quality hotel with excellent rooms & decor, it’s pricing is very reasonable giving great value for money! The staff are very friendly & attentive so it seems it is very well run. It’s popularity is well deserved, we requested to stay an additional night last minute & the staff did everything possible to deliver this. That in itself is a compliment because you don’t request an additional night if you are not happy & been well treated. The bar area is tastefully decorated, the menu is pretty decent & the food quality is top grade. Only one very minor thing, with the additional nights stay we had 2 rooms - there is no temperature control on the power showers & they are very hot. This needs to be looked at in case a child used the shower, they could be hurt? Would highly recommend & it’s ratings are well deserved!

Pub is very tired, tables in the pub were sticky. Beer selection is smooth flow or lager. Initially given the wrong room but the second was not much better, just larger. Very basic, minimal furniture dirty skirting boards. Bathroom is poky with no where to place anything. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Cleanliness was very good. The room was a good size and well equiped. The bar and restaurant were pleasant and covid safe. The steak meal was excellent and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Affordable comfort with thoughtful touches
Well-located with free parking, it's a great base for exploring the area. A generous and very tasty cooked breakfast really set us up for the day, the staff were welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed and the room was cosy and spotlessly clean. Little extras like bottled water, large screened TVs with Netflix and extra fluffy towels were a very welcome surprise. Overall, it's fantastic value and we had a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Few little issues, overall okay
Looks like it has been recently been renovated. Pity some corners have been cut though. Shower head didn’t stay up, bathroom radiator not working. Drainage issues in sink. The clock outside chimes every 15 mins so didn’t get decent sleep. The best part about it was the gentleman who checked us in and served us food. He was helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I’d go back again if I didn’t have a room at the front of the building.
