We had a relaxing stay at Bessho Sasa. The hospitality, customer service, and overall cleanliness were truly top tier, and every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and thoughtful. Our private onsen experience was excellent.
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that a few areas didn’t match the luxury price point. Bookings were less convenient than expected. Spa appointments can’t be booked online, and we also weren’t aware that local tours and activities can only be booked through the hotel within 7 days of arrival, which limited our options. If we had the option to book spa appointments online ahead of time, we would have booked more services. Also, I was expecting more options and higher quality options at the breakfast buffet, similar to that of the Hyatts in Tokyo. Lastly, the fixtures and finishes in our room (such as the sinks and countertops) felt dated with several dents and cosmetic defects; this typically would not bother me, but given the luxury price point, we went in with high expectations.
These are small things, but worth mentioning so future guests know what to expect, especially since everything else about our stay was lovely. Overall, we still had a great experience here and really appreciated the exceptional service.
