The staff was friendly, professional, and accommodating. The room was very nice with ample space. My only suggestion would be to deep clean or replace the hall carpeting, particularly around the elevator.

Calvin did a great job welcoming our family to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. The onsite restaurant had great service, amazing food, and I felt the prices were on point. Being the second year we have vacationed here we were not disappointed and will likely be back!

Both my wife and I are in our 70’s (71&76). Not having ramps or an elevator made getting around fairly difficult for us. Also, the wooden exterior hand rails gave my wife slivers several times. I suggest either having painted metal rails or some kind of a TREX rail system. The rest of our experience was fine. J. Lindberg

This hotel is truly pet friendly. They welcome dogs on majority of the property with the expectation of pool and gym. However, they do charge you a 300 USD pet fee per stay per room. So if you are only staying for a night or two, it’s really pricey. For this fee, they provide you some convenience items for your pet…. So it’s a nice little souvenir to take home too. We came during the off season, some amenities are not open. Seems to be a nice place to vacation in the summer time with many activities.

The property is in dire need of a facelift. It is not the Sanderling of yesteryear. The daily resort fee was so deceptive! Unbelievable! To think I actually contemplated having my daughter’s wedding there.

Very relaxing
I wanted a resort with a spa and restaurant for a much-needed respite from work, and the Sanderling fit the bill exactly! I wish I had come a couple of weeks earlier as some things in the area were considered post-season and not available or were limited, but the trade-off was the peace and quiet. My room was comfortable and the staff were helpful- highly recommend!

The property overall is run down. The pool area was overgrown with long grass and weeds. It was clear that the property is not being kept up. Also, the onsite dining is limited, and the one restaurant on the property is ridiculously overpriced. Very disappointing, especially for the cost of staying at this resort. Don't think we will be back.

Very nice property and pretty much the only resort type place on this part of the Outer Banks. Loved our spacious room and modern bathroom. Pretty pools but you couldn’t see the beach from them because of the necessary protective dunes—not a negative really because the practical is critical here. Only negative is that they seemed to be short staffed with longer than comfortable or necessary waits for food at the breakfast place. Once we got it the food was excellent. All in all, a nice experience.

We arrived an hour early for check-in and were greeted with smiles from the second we pulled into the parking lot to the moment we arrived at the front desk. Check -in was seamless and we were able to begin our special getaway sooner than expected. The beach access was easy to maneuver (I have mobility issues) as was the ingress and egress points going to and from our room. The view was exceptional and service impeccable.

Awesome Resort!
I am beyond impressed with The Sanderling. This was our first time here and our first vacation with our 2 puppies. I chose the Sanderling because they were pet friendly. The resort is gorgeous and all staff members from the front desk, to restaurant staff, to housekeeping were fantastic. Always smiling and ensuring we were happy and asking if we need anything. Shout out to Lisa for being kind and helpful… and for the puppy goody bags! The hotel is beautiful, spacious, clean, and the room was large with a big balcony and great amenities. I loved that there are three restaurants ranging from beachside bar to upscale dining. We didn’t have to leave the resort for anything. Relaxing, fun, and memorable weekend!

Scammy resort fees added to every night
The reason for the bad review here is that this hotel follows the scammy practice of "resort fees". These were shown on the hotel.com booking, but it's still a bad bractice. Whatever day rate you see, add $39 resort fee *per night*. It's a really scammy practice of bringing down their day rate without actually doing that. For this reason, my review will be poor. I don't even get what the resort fee is for. They have a pool, big whup, so do all hotels and they don't all charge for it. They put chairs and towels on the beach. Again, not worth $39 a day. What gets me even more is that we checked in late on the first day, 8pm. So all the "resort" features are gone by that time, but still charged. They only have one non-ev charger, which always has a queue and is being used. There aren't enough loungers on the pool, and the ones that are there are occupied by 8am. The location is excellent, and the hotel itself is nice, expensive but nice. All in all, I was looking for a romantic luxury weekend with my wife, but I had a mediocre hotel stay with a sting in the tail when the bill came

We strive to be transparent about all fees by disclosing them during the booking process on the website and we are disheartened that you experienced inconveniences in this regard. The resort fee is intended to cover various amenities and services to enhance your stay and we understand that the value of these can be subjective. Your concerns are valid points that we will definitely consider as we continuously look to improve our services. While we can't undo the inconvenience you've already faced, we do hope you’ll consider staying with us again so we can have a chance to provide you with the high-quality experience you expected and deserve.
