Dear David: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking the time to review your 2-night stay. We again express our apologies that you experienced an infrequent water outage arising from an unplanned interruption in the neighbourhood municipal water supply. It is always difficult to anticipate when such incidences will occur. As communicated to you, our onsite borehole water supply provides backup for our housekeeping services and we are able to assist with non-potable water in buckets. Regrettably, our washing machine remained inoperable during this period. The water supply was restored at midnight on your departure date, so we guess it was too late for you to utilize our laundry facility before leaving. We are however certain that you took a shower before departure. :) Your honesty is appreciated and we hope you choose to stay with us when next you are in Sandton, Johannesburg. We are 'Home', not a hotel. :)

Hi Gavin: Firstly, thank you for your 3-night stay in our garden-facing studio apartment and taking the time to review this. I am sorry that you had an 'unpleasant experience', which I'll address as follows: - Our deposit policy of R1,000 per stay is clearly stated on the booking site. At check-in, it was explained to you that this was not a payment to us, but an authorisation taken on your card for any loss/damage during your stay. You were assured that we do not need any money that does not belong to us. - We received notification of your booking on a Saturday morning, about 3 hours before your arrival. You fail to mention that you arrived before our check-in time of 14h00, yet your apartment was ready and you were allowed an early check-in. Our booking policy, which you did not adhere to, requires guests to confirm arrival times if they plan to arrive outside our check-in hours of 14h00 and 17h00. - Our Nespresso coffee makers are less than 6-months old. If the machine in your apartment didn't work, you did not bring this to our attention whilst you were resident. That would have given us an opportunity to investigate and fix the machine if it was faulty. - Our check-out procedure is contained in our room information booklet. As we are a self-catering establishment, it is important that we operate a loss-control system to safeguard our room facilities and amenities. Your rating of The Haystack is based on your experience which we hoped you had shared with us whilst resident, when we are sure that we would have been able to change it into a more positive one. You appear to have waited to leave before sharing your experience, which does not help us both. Thank you all the same, we hope to use your review to 'keep us on our toes' to the benefit of our guests who return for 'pleasant experiences'.
