Great week long stay on the Big Island!
We chose to spend our entire week with Pele at Hale Kai as our center of operations; couldn’t have been more pleased. Comfortable accommodations, great breakfasts provided, easy access to everything in Hilo, and a fantastic setting. Would do it again without hesitation.

The Pele suite at this property was as pictured on VRBO. Great access to Hilo and all Puna district and Hamakua coastline. The communication with the on island management, (Saltwater Vacations) could have been better regarding a couple of issues during the stay.

Excellent spot for East side of island
We stayed five nights here while visiting the Hilo area. It is a beautiful spot. We saw whales outside almost every day and enjoyed watching the body surfers from the deck. The views are amazing. Having a light breakfast with fresh fruit each morning was a nice touch. The place is spacious with a good sized bedroom, nice sitting area, small kitchenette and a small bathroom. It all looks fairly updated and in good condition. Lots of storage for suitcases and clothes. About two miles into downtown Hilo so very easy to get around. The weather was quite cool and wet while we were there so we didn’t use the pool or hot tub. The parking spots were a little tight but it never seemed like all four spots were being used so there was room to manoeuvre! Any question we had was responded to via email very promptly both before and during our stay. We would recommend this place as a nice quiet oasis for visiting Hilo and surrounding areas.

Great Views and cozy accomodations
The property is very nice and cozy. Not fancy, but very workable and clean. Appreciated the daily breakfast muffins and the coffee. View from the patio is great and the pool is just big enough to cool off. The hot tub was set way too high at 104, so we did not use it. The bed was comfy. Overall a great place to stay for the value. Aloha

Short stay in a beautiful location
The views were gorgeous, loved sunrise and watching the surfers from our deck. The property was a little dated but that’s what I expected, so no surprise. Quite a bargain for the location and views and breakfast included.

Hilo vacation
Loved the Pele suite. lots of room and the view is fantastic. Sitting outside over the pool watching the surfers is great. Very quiet and the grounds are lovely. Breakfast of muffins and fruit fresh every morning was a nice touch. Pool and hot tub are nice and since only 4 rooms here always empty. Only 5 min from downtown Hilo and all the shops and food choices.

Great 2 night stay
Great location to do a few days of site seeing around Hilo. Pool and hot tub were great. Enjoyed the views of the surfers from the balcony. While it was not hot and we were comfortable, I did miss the ac. Since we were not hanging out all day at the condo it worked perfect for a base for all we needed to do. The sunrises were amazing. I don’t have any objections to recommending anyone to stay here.

It was an OK property. View is nice and the room is spacious. The breakfast was plentiful with a nice selection but it needs some upgrades to get to the next level such as: deep cleaning, ensuring that netting covers the entire opening to prevent bugs from coming in, A/C!!! please. Also, we had the largest room (Pelé) but that meant the people from all the other rooms had to walk past our room. I would have rather had the privacy of the furthest room in order not to have people walking by our room. Loved the nature noises and waves breaking at night.

My wife and I spent the weekend at this quaint getaway. Location is fantastic. Just north of Hilo and a beautiful view of the ocean and the most popular surfing location in the area. Owner is fantastic with communication and texted me on the day of my arrival. Sunrises were amazing while enjoying a modest breakfast provided daily. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved the pool and jacuzzi too!

A wonderful stay in Hilo
We stayed in the Pele suite for three nights. Our stay was wonderful. The view from our lanai is amazing. Watching surfers, whales, ships entering the port, and the weather was great. While we didn't use the pool or hot tub, they looked inviting. We enjoyed the breakfast provided each morning. The fruit was great!!. Overall the unit was as advertised. Staff that we met were all courteous, friendly and helpful. We had a couple of things which needed some attention. The handyman was very attentive and happy to help us. Everything was fixed to our satisfaction immediately...within hours. Overall a great stay. We'd definitely stay in the Pele suite again.

Quiet Hilo stay
Lovely spot to stay for a few nights. Panoramic view of Hilo bay. Saw lots of Humpbacks breaching and blowing spouts half way out to horizon and spinner dolphins. Good to have binoculars with us. All this whist sitting on our own little deck having breakfast provided by Annie who was very helpful. Apartment is small but plenty space for two guests. Bathroom is cruise ship style but works out ok. Couple miles out of town so need a car. Have own car park spot but is steep drive and awkward parking but doable with a bit of manoeuvring.

Pros: The ocean view, breakfast in the fridge, ready the moment you wake up and enjoy while listening to the waves below. Free parking and close to downtown Hilo & surfing beach (Honolii). Cons: communication about breakfast is confusing, are we supposed to put the basket out for next day breakfast, what basket? Or they just come in and replace the next day breakfast? We found no replaced food for next day breakfast so I guess, no tray out, no food for you! We only stayed 2 nights so no chance to have that clear up. Overall, it’s a very charming place to stay, just that little confusion which I’m sure can be cleared up fast had we stayed longer.

Everythig was perfert : the view, the patio deck, the food for the breakfast, the pool, the flowers, the birds, the geckos,…. The only thing that you can do is to add air conditionning in the bedroom but we had enough fresh air to sleep with the popi !!,

Like most properties on the East side of Hawai'i Island we don't have A/C because it's really not needed in our very mild climate that rarely gets above 85 degrees F. Electricity is SO expensive here (about 5 times the cost of most places in the mainland US) that we would have to increase our rates so significantly to cover the cost, as as you mentioned opening the windows is enough to cool down and enjoy the perfect temperatures in this area :-) We hope you'll keep us in mind for your next trip to Hilo. Nice property and just a short drive to Hilo. Great fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, oatmeal, coffee and continental breakfast in the morning. Parking lot is tight but numbered appropriately. Shawna the host did a great job in communicating and recommending local attractions and restaurants that we visited. Bathroom is small. We did not use the pool or hot tub. There are four total rooms with the lanai separated by a partial privacy fence.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilo Hale Kai Suites- Pele Suite B&B. The suite was nice and clean, comfortable bed, plenty of room with bedroom, bathroom, living room with kitchen, and patio overlooking the ocean. The breakfast items put into our room each day were delicious. The pool right outside our door was clean. The landscaping was beautiful. It was more like staying in a home than in a hotel. Would stay again and would recommend this location to couples.

The location and setting were great. The view was fantastic and better than expected. The breakfast provided was just right. Would have rated 5 star if the hot tub was working and the pool was clean. The pool was not inviting so we did not use it. The setting of the pool was fabulous though. And we make this comment as pool and hot tub owners ourselves.

We were visiting from Waikoloa to see the gardens in the area.This was the perfect spot. Nice to have breakfast. Comfy bed. Everything we needed. Tv/cable wasn’t great but with WiFi it didn’t matter. My husband uses a cane so the steps were a little challenging

Absolutely wonderful!
We stayed in the Pele Suite in this bed and breakfast and it was absolutely wonderful! Watching the whales and surfers was very addicting. Sometimes it was hard to leave as we could watch the whales all day! Breakfast was delivered every morning and it was more than enough and it was very good. There was homemade breads, fresh fruit, milk, oatmeal, breakfast bars, yogurt. The only thing I would ask for is more hangers. I had to triple up my shirts on 1 hanger. We would definitely stay here again and had a wonderful wonderful vacation.

Very nice spot
Clean and comfortable and easy in easy out. Beautiful view and accurately portrayed on listing. Breakfasts trended downward from great first day to nothing on the last day. Limited dishware. Could easily be 5 star with just a bit of extra effort there.

Beautiful view
Seamless check- in. Quick response to questions and concerns. First toaster didn’t work so another was brought to us which worked better than the first but wr had to hold the button down to toast anything. There was a large number of insects that looked like fruit flies. I understand insects can’t be avoided and we were notified of this when booking There are significant stairs leading down to the entrance ( and subsequently back up) which I do t recall reading about. This didn’t impact our stay other than carrying luggage up and down which we could manage but others may not. Overall we thought the condo was adorable and the views amazing. It was great to feel like we were living a bit more like a local than in a resort or hotel.
