Excellent location for us and we were able to just leave our car and walk to everywhere we needed to be. We were even able to walk downtown to the waterfront to see the sights. The surrounding neighbourhood seemed very safe at night. The Inn was very clean and the continental breakfast was well laid out. A warm, comfortable environment overall. This property does not have an elevator so we had to carry our luggage up and down 2 flights of stairs. Being 80ish, this was not so easy. Staff did offer help if we needed it. Our towels had seen better days, and we would have liked to have had extra towels in the room when we arrived. A second towel rack would certainly help keep things organized in the bathroom. The Inn’s website did not say that there was a mini fridge in the room. We were surprised to find one!

Good location away from downtown but close enough to walk. Quiet rooms, adequate breakfast, comfortable beds and good shower. Would return.

Staff was great. I had no heat in my room so it ruined the whole experience. I was given a small deduction for the big inconvenience as a sleepless night has long repercussions for one coming to work. Panels of wardrobe doors were missing, I was in the basement with stained chairs and could hear every single breath of the people above me as well. I was said that it is hard for them to find someone for repair and that it smelled weed in my room as all smokers, including me, smoke outside in the parking lot close to the walls to protect themselves from the cold wind which is where my windows were at tire level. Around my windows were lots of buds...and my windows were opened until I realized they were in the wee hours of the night. Location is great and the staff is great. I guess it was a whole series of coincidences that made the experience very poor and being unable to have a night of sleep due to the cold and heating not being activated in my room.

Yes, you were located in the lower portion of the building, but you made a reservation with expedia during a time when we were extremely busy and had no rooms on our upper levels. The owner and staff were so kind and each room is decorated in a really cute and cozy way. I felt like I was transported back to the 1800s with the homemade quilt vibe next door to a Catholic cemetery dating back to 1843 was incredible - plus being across the street from the Public Gardens and next door to a delicious French Bistro by Liz AND the most amazing Happy Veal Hot Pot - and I only walked 1 km from my bus stop! (Maritime Bus) Perfect way to enjoy Halifax.

Paul and his staff were very accommodating. There was an issue with our initially thru no fault of their own and they made sure we were compensated and made comfortable. Would definitely stay there again

Pros: - free parking - walking distance to everything - breakfast included (which we did not take advantage of) - cheaper than other options. You get what you pay for I guess. Cons: - The room was 24.5 degrees. That’s way too hot. AC does not work as there was no remote nor buttons on the actual unit itself and the temperature adjuster on the wall did not move the temp up or down. We did not complain cause it was only for 1 night. And we just opened the window, but it quickly got too cold and had to shut it. - The carpet in the room is gross. - The view outside of our window was a graveyard. - The shower partially worked. The large top shower head kept dripping cold water, so I had to stand very close to the normal shower head to avoid to cold drips of water. - The beds aren’t very good, but it’s fine for a night. I could not do a week on them that’s for sure. Overall, do I recommend? No. I will not go back. It was a mediocre experience at best. The biggest disappointment was temp in the room being completely unacceptable.

The area was good relatively close to most things, the staff was very nice and friendly, the room was not in a great condition. One issue was that everytime someone opened/closed the doors in the main hallway, our whole back wall was shaking, and so was a metal decoration that was on top of the bed, one morning I woke up over 5 times because of this. Plus most of the items in the property were in a very old condition, of course we expected this because it is part of the whole experience but there were burn marks, tapes, rust and wobbly tables. Also, the place wasn’t as clean as we through it would be. The sheets had some hair on them, and marks from rust or blood(?) that had stayed after being washed. The bathroom had hair stuck on the door (from someone using the hairdryer). The shower, toilet and bathtub were reasonably cleaned and everything was stocked. I think that a little bit more effort to keep the spaces more clean and repaired would go a long way and would add to the overall experience of this otherwise great place! Thanks for having us:)

Very pleasant, friendly little inn. One or two small details needed fixing: light flooded in at night from corridor outside, lamp by bed was well past its best, and no free map of the city. (We got one from the Westin down by the station.) But no doubt all of these will soon be dealt with. And if you're looking for dinner: Le Bistro by Liz is 3 minutes' walk away and nothing short of superb!

Breakfast was disappointing, tv didn’t work at all and was not offered anything in return for not working, 3 month old rotten pumpkin in lobby area, mold and mildew in bathroom/shower area, drier barely worked and was $6, bed was a double instead of a queen as was reserved. Disappointed in this place.

A hidden gem
This stay was dictated by circumstance. We chose the hotel strictly on location. We were bowled over by the place. The check in was great. It gave meaning to the term service. The room surpassed expectations. Not luxurious or pretentiouos -- just comfortable, tasteful and with everything we needed. Just to round things out, the breakfast was exactly what we hoped for. Well done!!

Great property and nicely renovated century house. Cozy and has everything you need. Parking is a challenge since there are only 8 spots and one is for handicaps. Definitely recommend.

Not safe - pass.
Would never stay here again. Main issues were cleanliness. Don’t use the coffee pot - so gross. Also, I would be concerned about safety - unlike every other hotel there are no dead bolts or even abilities to lock the door so that staff or someone else can’t get into the room which is a real safety concern if you’re travelling alone.

We also explained to you that we no longer use the deadbolt system on our doors and they are all operated by keycard and lock as soon as they close. Once inside, it’s very comfortable. I liked the spacious room, the bed and shower. The location was just a little over a mile from the bus needed to get to the airport. It’s an easy hike.

It had character. There was a delicious french restaurant on the next block. The young lady working the desk was very helpful and patient. You needed to pay for the parking but you could park in the street for free which was very convenient and we did. It was a 20 min. walk to the boardwalk and very close to the gardens and citadel.

Nice place to stay - room was good size and had high ceiling so seems bigger. Breakfast also pretty good. Convenient location close to shops and restaurants and not far to walk down to waterfront.

I liked everything apart from breakfast. There could be some oat flakes or muesli. There is a wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. I can recommend the place.

Staff were excellent but my room was to have jetted tub...reg tub. And shower was either scalding or cold. Carpet was sooo old and stained was scary. Only 8 parking spots for whole building. Was convenient location for this trip but probably would not stay again. Expensive for what we received

I did double check and yes there was an error as we should have given you a jetted tub room. I wish you had mentioned it on the night you had arrived and we could rectify that. In terms of the other issues you had pointed out, we are trying to address these matters as soon as we are able. In terms of parking, there is a parking lot directly across the street that you could have placed your vehicle.Have a nice summer

A lovely Inn in a lovely part of Halifax. The Innkeeper was pleasant, informative, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The room we had was small but cozy and well-appointed. The parlour where we had a continental breakfast also served as a leisure space for coffee and for planning your day. I would not hesitate to return to the Garden Park Inn and to Halifax.
