This was an absolutely terrible experience.
The hotel does not provide air conditioning during the winter season (at least according to the staff), and the ventilation system was completely ineffective. The room was extremely hot and dusty, which triggered my dust allergy and caused red bumps on my face and neck.
Staff came to open the windows, but this only resulted in mosquitoes entering the room in the middle of the night. We were unable to sleep at all, and got sick on the next day.
The overall experience was exhausting and frustrating. We spent the entire morning trying to resolve an approved cancellation and refund for the remaining four nights. While the front desk staff were friendly, patient, and ultimately the ones who helped resolve the issue, our interactions with other staff members were highly unprofessional. Special thanks to Miss Xie and her colleagues for the unfriendly attitude, inappropriate laughter, and repeated interruptions—it was truly eye-opening.
Some hotel staff repeatedly claimed they either did not receive any emails or had already responded. However, Expedia confirmed that follow-ups were requested, indicating that these messages were not properly checked or handled.
To the management: as locals from Guangzhou, we sincerely urge you to show greater care and professionalism in managing China Hotel. This hotel has long been a landmark that generations have taken pride in, and it is deeply disappointing to see it decline to this standard.
