Fantastic hotel - but expensive, and...
Fantastic hotel! Friendly staff, great room, great comfort!! Superb location! This is a really good place to stay. I want to remark a couple of thing; 1) It is a busy neighbourhood, so be prepared for some noise outside the hotel. 2) It is really expensive. 3) When you pay that much for a hotel, breakfast should really be included. The breakfast was 25 euro, and not worth it, cheaper/better at Le Pain Quotidien at the 1st floor. 4) There is an open bathroom, be prepared for that. The toilet was separate, but without a sink, unpractical! The honesty bar is a perfect room for relaxing.

Beautiful location right in the heart of the city. It felt like we were staying in a castle with modern amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful, giving us great suggestions for where to eat and how to get around Ghent. As a bonus, the hotel cocktail bar (The Cobbler) was one of our favorite spots of the trip.

All of the old world charm and exquisite modern amenities rolled into each room. Located in a busy square in the heart of the area and yet our room was quiet. Staff are all superb too. Already looking forward to going back!

We stayed in the carriage room, with private balcony. Positives: Great location for walking around Ghent, very attractive hotel, absolutely wonderful staff, private balcony, delicious breakfast. Negatives: The room is divided into two floors. The toilet is on the first floor. The bed, shower and sink are on the second. There is no sink in the toilet room, so that means going upstairs to wash your hands. There is no door on the shower. For some reason, the lights for most of the room (most importantly, the stairs) are controlled by one light switch on the first floor. I can’t begin to tell you how annoying this is. There are nightlights on the stairs, but who knows how they work? They did not work during most of our stay. The bedside lights do not operate independently (as far as I could tell). The air conditioner controls are super annoying. Personally, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. If you choose to, make sure your partner is comfortable showering with no privacy. I should also mention that when we were there, loud club music kept us awake on two different occasions. It was being played at 3:00 in the morning. That is my most significant complaint.

This Hotel commands the centre of Ghent and make you feel like the lord of the manor as you walk in through the ornate doors and up the gothic spiral staircases until you reach your beautifully appointed room. Spend as much time as you can with the reception team as they will direct you to all the best spots in Ghent including where to find the best hot chocolate. They made my holiday perfect.

The reception staff was exceptional. They couldn’t have been more pleasant, responsive and helpful in reapinnding to our questions and offering suggestions. The only criticism was that the rooms were a bit dark which may be due to the age of the hotel which was otherwise imoeccibly maintained. Overall, however, great stay.

The view was stunning and the room was beautiful on 2 levels and with a balcony. Beds were v comfortable and would have been an smazing stay but the tram rails were being repaired in the main square just outside all night which was an unacceptable level of noise and the hotel were unaware thst the public works were planned or even happened. Not the hotel fault or even in their control but maybe a factor to consider in the location. Hopefully management were able to complain to the local manager of public works and can get prior warning so not to rent out those rooms affected

Personeel 1 van de alleraardigste die we meegemaakt hebben.. verwelkomt met een knuffel voor de kleine van 7 maanden en gedurende het verblijf diverse keren ons extra verrast met de service vanaf hun kant.. De kamer was fantastisch en zo goed als geluiddicht. Je hoort wel af en toe wat, maar je zit dan wel midden in het centrum tegenover enkele kroegen. Bedden lagen heerlijk en douche was prima! Kleine attentie van 2 chocola eitjes (heeerlijk) tijdens eerste paasdag maakte de beleving weer iets completer.. Ontbijt was goed, waarbij de service het ook wel weer deed. Oprecht vriendelijk personeel, met aandacht voor detail. Genoeg keuze en goede kwaliteit voor het bedrag wat je er voor betaald.. ‘s avonds voor een cocktail in de bar was gezellig. Drukte met ook lokalen, dus geen “ongezellige halflege hotelbar”. Enig punt van aandacht is dat ze pretenderen tafels en stoelen voor de hotelgasten vrij te hebben terwijl die eigenlijk altijd vol waren, iets wat misschien wat verbetering kan krijgen om dit op een juiste manier aan je gasten te “verkopen”.. Ik zou dit zeker aanbevelen bij een kort verblijf in Gent. De lokatie en het hotel zelf zijn fantastisch.

This was a lovely hotel! The staff was very friendly and full of recommendations. Everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance - it felt like we were in the center of everything. We enjoyed hot chocolate at the bar in the mornings and drinks there as a night cap. The beds were some of the comfiest we stayed in on our trip.

Heel vriendelijk personeel. Behulpzaam, bij het inchecken werd gevraagd of we een idee hadden waar we wilden dineren. Zij gingen gelijk voor ons bellen en de reservering maken. S'avonds was er een wachtrij voor de bar, wij mochten onze cocktails bestellen en die werden naar de kamer gebracht. De kamer was van alle gemakken voorzien, badjas en slippers tot conditioner voor je haar. Bed sliep heerlijk. Ontbijt ook goed verzorgd, vriendelijk en behulpzaam, vers gebakken en ook aan glutenvrij enz is gedacht. The Post 1898 is echt een aanrader en wij komej zeker nog een keer terug.

A completely fabulous hotel in all aspects. We had a wonderful three nights here. The standout feature was the satff. Some of the nicest, friendliest, kind and helpful staff you could encounter. They did everything to make us feel welcome and valued. We cannot wait to come back.

Simply gorgeous historic hotel in the heart of Ghent with the feel of a true boutique hotel. Wonderful cocktail bar in the evening though, sadly, no restaurant. Superlative staff at all levels from reception to housekeeping.

Perfect Ghent for a dreamy break
We had 4 beautiful nights at 1898 The Post. This is a stunning hotel right on the main Ghent square, perfect for walking around all the beautiful parts of this fascinating city. Our room was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated and the additional requests we made were covered. Our only comment was the breakfasts were not relaxed and one older woman in the cooking area told me off several times, wrong plate/ wrong bread etc, not great for an expensive breakfast in a premium hotel and we noted she was the same to other staff.

Outstanding property... Unique and beautiful. We were there during Christmas and the Ferris wheel & Christmas fair was right outside our 3rd floor room and it wasn't a disturbance at all. Breakfast was great - loved the omelets made to order and the French breakfast tea was a delight.

Mum and I loved our recent stay at the hotel. The beautiful decor, friendly, helpful staff and spotless rooms. There was lovely attention to detail throughout. The only occasional issue we had was with the low lighting - it creates a fantastic atmosphere but was a little challenging at times. This did not however, scupper our enjoyment and we would highly recommend this quirky little hotel.
