Overall our stay was nice. We liked that the rooms have patio doors. This made it feel like there was an accessible outdoor option and kept us from feeling confined. The hot tub was not very hot. More like bath water warm. So that was disappointing. The s’mores on the patio was a nice, free option. We sat by the fire and took a moment to enjoy the fire.

Kudos to your front desk person, Eric! We drive an electric vehicle and were planning on charging it upon our arrival. When we discovered the charger on the property was out of service, Eric came up with an easy solution for us allowing us to plug into an outdoor outlet on the property. Thank you, Eric! You saved our trip!

The spa area closes too early and the fact that someone has to pay $30 day pass for use of the facility in the spa area is outrageous. Use of the jacuzzi was not available. It closed too early and we had to pay an extra fee to use the facility. No complimentary breakfast no extra amenities. The place was full capacity it seems you were understaffed

It was just a check in. My check-in was at 4 PM. And I had to wait for about two hours in my car with my three children until they clean my room. It was very upsetting.

Beautiful property, great customer service. We stayed one night and we had a room that had a connecting door. The guests next door arrived late to their room and were talking for hours. It was as if we were in the same room. I didn't want to say anything because we were only staying one night and didn't want to move rooms because it was in the middle of the night. This is the only thing that ruined our experience. 240 West Restaurant food was ok.

I’ve been visiting for a few years before I had kids I loved how calm and relaxing the place is. Now with 2 toddlers I love how family friendly this resort is. We went for a relaxing trip! We had our first ever hiccups this time the water boiler went out on the first night so we didn’t get any showers after the pool and the next day they advised us the boilers were working at half capacity so they offered to move us to another building which we agree they also comped our lunch on the house for room service and our resort fees. They went above and beyond for us. I will continue to make this a trip to the abbey with my family. It’s our favorite drivable resort from Chicago to get out of the big city.

Nice looking property. Some areas need updating. Hall carpeting nees regular vacuuming. Good size rooms. Biggest turn off is the overwhelming smell of chlorine as soon as you enter the lobby. Disappointed that i could not get a spa appt or a day pass, one of the main reasons I booked the Abbey.

Excellent resort location and amenities but only drawback is food. Restaurant has 1-2 items for vegetarians which is very disappointing

Definitely love the lobby and having lunch at the Waterfront. But they absolutely need more signage for getting up and down hallways to the different parts of the hotel.( and also would be nice to have a microwave in your basic room and not have to go to a different floor )Also to have more of a checkpoint at the pool as we heard groups of teenagers that were just there to use the pool and were going home they were not even staying at the hotel. And I understand having different promotions and events but to have a kids scavenger hunt for 9:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. with them running all around the hotel maybe to shorten the time frame as to be considerate of other guests

We have been coming to the Abbey pretty much every year since 2007. It has been our winter getaway. We used to love the atmosphere, the customer service, and the pool at the spa. However, this year, our experience was rather disappointing. Customer service has gone downhill. The staff working at the Abbey seemed uninterested in providing satisfactory customer service to the guests. Check-in was not a smooth transaction. We booked a room with a king-size bed but were assigned one with double beds. Eventually, after speaking with multiple people and showing proof of booking request, we were moved to a king-size. Next, we could not use the pool until the next day (we were told there was a hold placed on pool access, and to go to the Spa early next morning to purchase daily passes to use the pool). To my surprise, I was told that you have to purchase one guest pass PER PERSON (not room). That is new. In addition, each pass went from $25 per room (that is what we have been paying in prior years) to $40 per person!!! This is ridiculous. Unfortunately, the Abbey is not what it used to be.

The only reason we chose this property was to use the spa as we were not interested in the family pool. So, we checked in early around 1 pm on a Sunday and headed straight for the spa for a day pass. They were sold out! We were told they had no idea if spots would open and to call back later that afternoon. I called twice and left messages. They called me 1 hour before closing and said we could get a pass at half price. I appreciated the discount I guess, but for only 1 hour? Please allow for booking day passes to the spa when you book the room. However that won’t help me as I won’t be returning. I see the remodeling that’s been done and it’s a good start. The property is very large and the way the halls wind around, it’s a veritable labyrinth when going from lobby to your room. All of that walking around revealed hallways and paint in disrepair. I’d pay more for upgraded linens and pillows. Still the setting is beautiful and unique!!
