Private mountain getaway with huge views on 10 wooded acres! The property is nestled among mature timber, with a creek running through the backyard. Most days, you'll get to see moose :)

The main house has 3 bedrooms 3.5 baths and a loft with an office with plenty of room for a Queen sized air-mattress (provided). The garage is HEATED and there are 2 additional bedrooms - no bathroom in the garage - so we call it the bunk room.

We have 9 total beds, a Queen Floor mattress, pack & play, 3 sofas, and bedding/pillows to sleep up to 20 guests (recommend 12-16 adults).

Starlink wifi, hot tub, covered deck & patio, pool table, Bluetooth Soundsystem.

Watch the sunrise over Pike's Peak, sunset over Pennsylvania Mtn, and views of the Milky Way at night :) *Be sure to turn off house lights and you'll likely see shooting stars from the hot tub or back patio!

Other things to note: Must have AWD vehicle to access the home Nov-April, no refunds given if you get stuck. Snow Tires & chains recommended - Please familiarize yourself with Mountain Driving. The home is located on a gravel county road and we can not guarantee how often it is plowed. The driveway is plowed after 6" accumulation overnight.

Pet fee of $150 applied for up to 2 pets/stay. Additional pets must be approved.

No Parties, No Smoking, No unregistered guests - Fines apply *Events must be pre-approved and often require a 1 day insurance policy & extra cleaning fees.

The mangy moose was very pet friendly. The place was ready on time as promised and communication with the owners was almost immediate. I really appreciated having questions answered in a timely manner. Our only problem was a member of our party got severe altitude sickness thus truncating our stay. Other members of the group were able to stay. One thing that would greatly improve the MM would be a bathroom facility in the garage thus eliminating the need to walk over to the main house for middle of the night usage. Other than that everything was perfect. We even had a little snow making the setting ever more magical and the appearance of the moose and some bear to add to the wonder that us Maui folks never see. I would return in a heartbeat, but the altitude may prohibit that.

Booked the Mangy Moose for our wedding. The hosts were both available whenever we had questions and ready to answer all. We have seen the residential moose Earl everyday leading to and on the day of the wedding. Check in and out instructions were simple and straight forward. Great Location & House!

We loved the location and size of this house. The house had everything we needed for our stay and plenty of beds for our party of 9. Our kids enjoyed the hot tube and our entire family enjoyed the pool table. The views from the house are fantastic and we enjoyed viewing moose, deer, and coyotes from the deck.

Beautiful home with all amenities

We have visited FairPlay 3 times now and this has been the BEST experience. It was a bit out of our budget but it was worth every penny. This home has everything you could possibly need. Extra toothbrushes, soap, bug spray, board games, a bunch of kitchen dishes and appliances. The listing mentions the wildlife in the area and it is very accurate. We saw elk, deer, plenty of chipmunks and even a bear!! The trees are beautiful, weather was great. There were 16 of us and we had plenty of room to sleep. The hosts were quick to respond and left plenty of instructions. I hope to come back next year , this home should definitely be your first pick.

Amazing Place!

Everything about our stay was amazing. The views were spectacular and the location was perfect. Just 20 minutes from the nearest town with all the amenities you’d need (grocery, gas, coffee) but isolated enough that you have all the nature Colorado has to offer (we saw moose, countless deer, and so many humming birds!)The house was amazing. Well stocked and supplied, clean, and everything was labeled so no hunting around for the right cupboard. The hosts supply an oxygen concentrator, which was appreciated by all of us flat landers!

Amazing Space for Intimate Wedding /Vacation

We rented this beautiful place for a family vacation and a wedding ceremony. The house was beautiful and the view was breathtaking! We saw wildlife around the property everyday. The hosts were amazing throughout the entire process, and the communication was great, both prior and during our stay. The home was fully stocked with everything we needed plus many extras! It was a wonderful experience and hope to be able to do it again soon!

Ski Weekend

My friends and I had a great stay here. The home was beautiful along with the views, and offers many amenities. We loved the clear directions and helpful signage throughout the home. Our hosts were very responsive prior and during our stay with any questions. I would highly recommend booking this home. The reason we chose this location was for overall bed options and location between our itinerary of skiing in Breck and hot springs at Mt Princeton.

Perfect wedding location

We had the handfast ceremony aka old wedding of our dreams at this cabin. The space for everyone to have there own rooms for the days befor the wedding. The entertainment basins the beauty of the mountains surrounding you. The little fox friends that come to visit you, all the beautiful wild life. Our wedding and time at this cabin was literally magical and perfect. The owner is fast responding and amazing to work with. Overall so happy we choose the mangy moose to stay!

Destination Wedding

A beautiful home to host our friends and family for our destination wedding. We spent a couple of days playing games, hot tubbing and making meals together. We ended our stay with a gorgeous outdoor wedding with the background of colorful trees and open sky! Our hosts communicated well and were friendly. A Coloradan’s Paradise!

I am a Colorado native living on the east coast now, and this getaway at the Mangy Moose was an absolutely perfect way to spend my summer vacation. I spent the days with a group of friends I haven’t seen in ages— there’s plenty to do around the surrounding towns, but we mostly enjoyed staying on the property— playing games, hot tubbing, enjoying the views from all the patios… it was relaxing, rejuvenating, and everything the listing advertised. Most importantly, all of us slept comfortably. All beds and furniture were ultra comfy! The hosts were super responsive and helpful with all questions we had before and during our stay. Love this special place!

Wilderness viewing

The house is situated above a large expanse of willows and brush so that at anytime you will see a moose or deer munching away. It’s a great place for a large group as there are many places to gather or to be alone. The Bunkhouse is probably more suited for children rather than older adults as no bathroom is available. South Park has lots to offer and worth your while to spend a few days.

Absolute no brainer to book this place

Kia was quite possibly one of the best hosts I’ve ever rented from. The house was on point, accurate and advice and beyond what’s usually promised and kept at a rental. The house had so many unique and minor touches that made it feel like home more than majority of rentals that seem crudely put together.

Wonderful family time together

The home is just outstanding in many ways. It is beautifully furnished including comfortable beds and plenty of extra blankets. The kitchen is better stocked than my own. They have thought of several details to make your stay simply memorable, such as everything is clearly labeled, coffee and creamer is in the refrigerator, altitude recommendations and medication if needed. We were in town for my daughter’s wedding and they left a wedding gift for them. Super sweet. They were available for any questions I had. Truly a memorable stay. And we even saw a moose in the backyard by the creek.

Family reunion

Wonderful visit, wonderful property. We were looking for a property to accommodate a large group for a family get together and the Mangy Moose hit it out of the park. Everything was above and beyond. Classy retreat, secluded with spectacular views. The VRBO descriptions can never do it justice. The hosts know what they are doing, nothing was missed, like a lot of rentals, there are a lot of instructions, but theirs are very subtle and don’t come off as “yelly” or condescending. The extra touches were everywhere. Beautiful, well appointed home, exactly as advertised with breathtaking views. We unfortunately did not see a moose during our stay but were able to watch the mule deer feed near the stream nightly. As someone who rents vacation properties 2 to 3 time a year I will say the hosts of the Mangy Moose could give a master class on proper vacation home hosting. Thanks for a wonderful visit.

Villalobos Getaway

Absolutely stunning. The house was great. Fully stocked on basics plus the forget me box was a huge help. The drive up is bumpy so make sure to listen to Kia. Rent a n suv if needed. Wildlife was unreal. My husband saw a baby moose being chased by 3 wolves. He whistled and it was able to get away. Momma moose chased the alpha wolf away. Never thought we would see something like that. Chipmunks visited us daily. Sitting on the back porch watching it all was the best. It was quiet and dark at night. Great sleep. We brought our kids and grandkids and they loved it. Lots of toys there for the babies and games for the bigger kids. I could go on about how wonderful it was... Dont miss your chance to stay here. You will be happy you stayed.
