Unfortunately the truth for this rental owner Nicholas is all relative. According to his description, the house is located on a relatively busy street across from Mercyhurst University. The fact is that University is located at 501 East 38th street. The view from the front of the house is a dangerous 4 lane highway and 2 side streets. The city of Erie feels this particular road is so dangerous that there is a sign not 200 yards from the house that indicates "Aggressive Drivers High Crash Area". As if that wasn't enough, the gate latch for the fenced in yard (which was one of the main reason we chose this property traveling with my grandchildren who are 3 and 1) is broken and the gate could only be locked with a hook and eye from the outside. Big safety issue for us. Next issue, the front door only locks when you are outside of the house. There is a separate deadbolt which doesn't work and two of the three bedroom doors have locks which don't work, not very safe at all for my grandchildren considering the road. The open stairwell into the basement was also a huge safety concern luckily we were able to purchase a baby gate. When I finally reached out to the rental owner because the coffee pot was also broken and I had had enough considering the money we had spent, Nicholas stated the gate worked fine, the dangerous road had nothing to do with his rental and he would have his handyman come by and address the coffee and other concerns, Minor the handyman was a no call/no show.
