I contacted the hotel prior to our arrival to inquire about road safety, given the recent heavy rainfall and the fact that they are located on a bumpy dirt road, quite a ways away from the main paved road. They assured me it was safe. However, upon attempting to drive to the hotel, we quickly realized it was not safe for us nor for our rental car. We also knew that it would be even more unsafe once it got dark and more heavy rain was forecast for that night. So, we contacted the hotel to request a cancellation and a refund for these special circumstances. They refused to cooperate, and even after several communications over the course of a week, their answer remained the same: no refunds; sorry. So, not only did we spend $500 for a room we never got to use, but we also had to spend another $500 to find last-minute accommodations elsewhere in places with paved/dry roads that were safer to drive on. The only reason I'm giving this hotel 2 stars rather than 1 is because they at least were willing to communicate with me regarding the issue rather than ignoring me. They even seemed somewhat empathetic and offered to let us stay at their hotel for 2 nights some other time. However, we don't know when we'll be going back to Mexico, so this offer was not useful for us. Really wish they would have prioritized our safety over our money. Very disappointing.
