I do not leave negative reviews lightly, but this stay needs to be documented.
The room had a strong foul odor overnight. The next morning, I discovered the toilet was completely blocked. I politely informed the front desk before leaving for a meeting.
When I returned later in the day, the blockage had been cleared. However, the toilet had not been cleaned afterward. There was visible residue remaining on the rim (even after multiple flushes).
I calmly returned to the front desk and requested that the toilet be cleaned. I did not ask the front desk employee to clean it personally — only that it be addressed by whoever handles housekeeping. The response I received was defensive: I was asked whether she was “supposed to clean my toilet” and told there was no one else on duty.
Rather than escalate the situation, I disengaged. The toilet was never cleaned.
Maintenance issues can happen. Staffing shortages can happen. What should not happen is making a guest feel unreasonable for requesting basic sanitation.
In addition, the property shows visible signs of poor upkeep, including burned sections of carpet in the room.
This is not about luxury expectations. It is about cleanliness and professional handling of a basic hygiene issue. Unfortunately, this stay fell short on both.
