Not just a room for the night
This place was a whole experience. Korey the care taker was friendly, responsive and quick. He was very knowledgeable. We also had a communal kitchen and den where we found some games to play. The only negative was there were rowdy people staying there and the place echoes

Will Stay Again
The Mission is clean, comfortable, affordable and very interesting. The other guests were fun to engage with and Kory couldn’t be easier to work with. We needed a dog friendly place to stay and this place was just as welcoming to our dog as to us. We didn’t get a chance to explore all the Mission has to offer but we plan to be back to the area and we will certainly stay again.

Hidden treasure
This is such a cool and unique place I am grateful I found it. It's in a gorgeous location with hiking right across the street that leads to beautiful hemlock lake. The building is full of character and history. The room I stayed in was airy and spacious and clean and the private bathroom was perfectly good with everything I need. It was nice to sit in the communal kitchen and chat with friendly people who stay there. Korey is very nice and helpful. His welcome email has all the pertinent information so make sure to read it all. it's slightly "rustic" I guess as in it's not a bed and breakfast, but I find it perfectly comfortable, and what it lacks in frills or luxury it more than makes up for in a sense of calm, wonder, mystery, and community. There may be some gap with VRBO booking because I didn't receive the welcome email ahead of the trip but I got there early and ran into him so was all set from that. So I would just recommend getting in touch with Korey before the trip if you didn't receive an email.

Fascinating buildings & history
We enjoyed the spacious rooms, speculated about the history of the buildings and rooms, and did not have time to explore more. The stairs were a challenge with luggage, but my physically adept sister was able to handle them easily. Thank you to Korey for his hospitality.

Very Disappointing
I am 86 years old with disability. We waited a full 30 minutes after the 4 PM check-in. for anyone to let us in..Then I got a 3rd floor room, without a key, and no light in the bedroom. I called for assistance; was promised help; received none!

Very peaceful place. Beautiful buildings and views. Great access to both conesus and hemlock lake. Bring necessaties (i.e. toilet paper) and food and bev with you. Come with an open mind and ya might just surprise yourself. Can't wait to return with my family!

It’s a beautiful place from the outside…
It is truly a beautiful place, but it needs a lot of work. Don’t expect a quaint little inn. Accommodations are very rustic.. Many spaces are communal. Views from the roof are great and great for star gazing at night… overall our stay was just okay….

Mission Uncertain
From the pictures on the site, I knew we were not booking a swanky place. I spoke with the host before booking to confirm some details and he was very kind and helpful. Upon arrival the exterior is impressive. Then you enter the space. The smell took me back to my dusty mildewed elementary school library, but not in a good way. There was actual dust and cobwebs everywhere. The room we stayed in was a nice size and had it’s own bathroom. We shared a large kitchen with another very nice family. Unfortunately, the kitchen was quite unclean. We had to wash the dishes before using them because there was dust and dead bugs. There were mouse droppings in some of the bottom cabinets (I do understand that it is an old building and most likely does have mice, I just don’t want to see their traces). In our room, the beds were soft and blankets were also soft. Our room did not have air conditioning as advertised. I also ran the hot water for about 10 minutes before it got hot and then it only lasted about 10 minutes before it was cold again. Again, we knew we were not booking a swanky place, but hot water for showers and hand washing is very important. The Grottos that I was so excited about exploring were closed - enter at your own risk because they are deemed unsafe. Very disappointing. Finally, the host has young children who spend much of there time in the room on the floor I stayed on. They are at the age where they scream and cry A LOT (like until after 10pm). They are cute and it’s not their fault. While I would not stay here again with my whole family, I would, probably, if it was just me and my husband. Rustic is not for everyone. They seem to have a greater Mission and I wish them well in their work.

Interesting but not clean.
The location is really beautiful but it felt like just a small step up from camping. The room was not very clean, the sheets smelled like body odor and a man's deodorant and we spent the first night wishing we would have brought our own sheets, blankets, and towels. The shared kitchen also had an unsanitary feel to it so we aborted our plan to use it for breakfast every morning. And on the last morning as we packed up we found some else's dirty socks under the nightstand.

Over promised, under delivered
In all my years of using Vrbo and Air B&B, I’ve never run across a property so woefully kept. I understood this was not going to be a luxury stay, but this was truly terrible. First, a few days before we arrived a welcome email stated wi-if was excellent. In reality, it cut out every 10 minutes. This was also the first time we were told that there were no locks on the room doors, but he had a few that he could give us a lock for. The welcome email also mentioned some wonderful neighbors to the property, but they did not welcome guests on their property and for us to observe do not trespass signs. Upon check-on when I mentioned it in jest, Korey told us we could possibly be shot if found on their land. This was as disarming as the brief tour of the parapet roof on our floor when we were told a seminarian in the 60s jumped after being harassed by fellow students. The fact that the kids walked away from a 70ft+ drop wasn’t really that reassuring. We were on the 3rd floor, and were told ahead of time, so the 3 1/2 flights of stairs were not a surprise, but challenging. The common rooms-kitchen and tv/entertainment rooms- were very nice and pleasant. Our room, however, was not. This was like a very bad hostel. Yes, it was a former dorm room, but my bed had a different bottom sheet, top sheet, and pillow case on the “pillow” that was about 1 inch high being generous. The other pillow did not have my pillow case. The cap was hastily placed being cut raggedly on one side of the room so it was 1-2 inches away from the wall on that side. Unfortunately, it was also the side where the door to the room opened and would catch on the carpet creating a hazard. The very cute bedside lamp did not have a light bulb in it. Neither did the bathroom medicine cabinet, so the only lights we had were dismal single bulb ceiling lights in the main room and bathroom. The air conditioner was working well, but that was the only outlet that was working. Two other outlets I tried to recharge my electronics were dead. Whether they had shorts or were not hooked up properly I couldn’t tell, but they were not new outlets. The toilet was new and worked fine. The medicine cabinet mentioned above had a mirror above the sink; however, it was hung so far up I could only see the top of my head, so it was useless. The shower was the size of an RV unit and not inviting. The framing for both the bathroom door and the closet door was exposed and unfinished. Not a good experience.

Jody, Sorry for your poor experience. We do our best here but there are some challenges with such a historic property. Guests should definitely not expect the Taj Mahal. I don't remember the room you were in, however some times when the house is full we have to use the rooms that are perhaps not as ideally setup as others. Again, sorry for the poor experience, and never meant to insinuate that you could be shot for trespassing. That is certainly not a concern here. Perhaps I should not have jested in that way. Korey

If you know some things going in and choose to stay, you will like it
First, I commend Korey for trying to make use of this amazing property. 1. Check In - Despite knocking, calling, & emailing Korey, no one appeared for over 15 min. The car was in gear to leave when Korey whistled. He was not expecting us. (He told me later that since I booked through VRBO, he didn't get a reminder, so forget we were coming.) He asked us to take a walk while he put in the air conditioner. 2. NOT Handicap Accessible - Uneven ground outside and stairs to get to rooms (no elevators). Even the 1st floor is up 1/2 flight of stairs. 3. Cleanliness & Room - The stairwell smelled like mold. The room did not. There was no toilet paper in BR. Shower was small but clean. The towels were stained (iron water, I hope). There was no TV in the room. 5. Privacy- Kitchen & TV are shared. No instructions for TV. We never figured it out. Food in pantry & refrigerator was marked "do not eat". There was no coffee for guests. A man lived permanently on the floor. We were not initially given a key for our room. When we asked - it was a skeleton key. We never left anything in our room (which meant hauling everything up and down the stairs). 6. Grounds- Trail is nice. Chickens are fun to watch. Lots of gypsy moth caterpillars all over bldg (not Korey's fault). If you want a unique experience and can rough it a little to support someone with gumption - give Korey a hand by staying here. If your minimum expectations are Holiday Inn or Red Roof - don't book here.

The Mission
Korey the overseer of the property was kind and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The facility is old so you can't expect perfection. The weekend weather was chilly and rainy, so the room would get cold. A small radiant heater was provided and with a little common sense we were able to keep the chill mild. Our only disappointment was the hot water. Only getting mild at best made for a fast shower. The kitchen with all of its windows was delightful in the morning times. Everything you need to cook and eat is provided and the table and chairs are comfortable. Overall we enjoyed our stay and slept very well. The history of the structure and the ability to stay in such a place was a neat change form modern lodging. Thank you again Korey for the experience.

An Explorer's Treat!
Korey and his family were wonderful and welcoming hosts going above and beyond to make my stay fun and interesting. The wifi was excellent! The grounds were amazing with a full tour of the mission and the grottos it was well worth my trip. As an avid adventurer it was the perfect place to stay over Halloween, with a small gathering hosted onsite with a bon fire and tarot readings available. A great time and very close to Letchworth State Park and other local attractions. I have already planned to go back for another trip.

Beautiful and Interesting Place to Stay
My stay at the Mission was exactly as described. Korey, the host was great and communicative. He was very helpful and even fixed my broken key fob when I set off my car alarm! There is a lot to see on the property itself and although I didn't get to explore as much as I liked, I definitely recommend giving yourself enough time for a hike on the property. The room was comfortable and the kitchen was very nice and well stocked. There was no one else on the same floor with me so I had a quiet and peaceful stay, but I came mid week, so that may have been why. For someone who isn't needing a hotel or classy bed and breakfast, but just looking for an interesting place to stay and comfortable bed, the Mission is the perfect place. I would come again.

Great for photos
The Mission is a truly unique property and experience. I’m not a history buff but I am a photographer and that made this stay a one-of-a-kind. The buildings of the Mission are in varying degrees of upgrading and repair, leaving a lot of unique spots to photograph. It’s not the Hilton and you do rough it a bit with the shared kitchen but the buildings and location are SO quiet and peaceful, and the dogs were very welcomed. Meeting other guests made the stay even more memorable. All in all a great weekend.

Unique Experience- perfect for the non-picky on a budget
This property is pretty unique. You definitely have to go with an open mind and leave with an appreciation for what Korey is trying to accomplish. Korey was awesome at communication and sent us some additional pictures prior to our arrival so we could get a better feel of what to expect. Definitely has a dorm feel. Long corridors with bedrooms off the wide hallways. Rooms are all different and extremely eclectic with mismatched furniture, rugs, towels, bedding and random decor. Our rooms were clean for the most part and beds were comfortable however I would suggest mattress covers, as at least in our rooms, there were none. I think the price point is fair and I wish the very best to Korey and his family as they move forward with this endeavor.

Perfect Combination for Me
This place provided me the perfect combination of natural beauty, intriguing history, peaceful serenity, calm, clear water for kayaking, beautiful and affordable golf, fantastic hiking and great roads for riding my bike. Korey and his sweet family were welcoming and caring hosts. The accommodations have a dorm like feel. Great having my own bathroom. One of my favorite parts was the sound of children playing outside, really playing! Loved it! I hope to return again.

A little disappointed
Due to the weather there really wasn't much to do outside. The add stated there was wi-fi so we figured we would watch some movies and cuddle for the weekend. The wi-fi did not work. The care taker said he would look into it but never did. The place was extremely cold which was not mentioned. We decided to leave early. Would not go back

David, My apologies. I looked into the internet issue right away. I couldn't figure it out, until the next day after you left. This portion of our facilities is seasonal, so while we burn wood, and have space heaters in the rooms, they're not always ideal. Sorry for the poor experience. If you ever want to come again, please do so, and at no expense.

A group of 8 of us stayed. We had 5 trucks and bass-boats. Plenty of parking for all. We stayed on 2nd floor. Lots of room. Rooms were basic, but has everything you could need. Kitchen was well stocked and Korey very helpful. Second time there and we will stay again

Comfortable and cozy; a bit out of the way.
Korey was kind enough to let us stay in the house, which we had to ourselves. It was nicely appointed with wood floors, high ceilings and cozy bedspreads. There was lots of place to put our stuff, a large kitchen with everything we needed. One bathroom had a tub and another had a walk in shower. The view from our room (king bed-very comfy) was lovely. We only had one hiccup. Korey sends out an email with all the info you need before your stay. Due to an oversight he didn't send it to us until 2 days before our arrival and as we had already left for the first leg of our journey, we didn't get it. If we had we would have had all the info we needed to gain entry and make ourselves at home. When we got there our cell phone got no reception and the place looked deserted. There was no sign that said, "Welcome to the Mission." We thought we had the wrong place. It was lucky we drove up the hill to the house and caught Korey before he left, or we might have left ourselves, unable to contact him and found someplace else to stay. So if you don't get his welcome email at least a week before you expect to arrive, jog his memory by email. You'll have all the info you need to plan your arrival smoothly. We didn't see the rooms in the Mission itself, but if they are as nice as the house, they would be just fine. Don't get put off by the rather rundown look of the buildings on the outside. The inside has been redone nicely. It is also good to know that there is very little in the town of Conesus in the way of restaurants or groceries, just one country store which also sells wings and pizza (nothing helpful if you are gluten free, or prefer healthy eating). You have to drive to Livonia which is 12 k away to the ShurFine grocery which is a full grocery store and has gluten free options. It also has a few restaurants- one of which "Embers" was closed on Sunday which was the day we arrived.) We were told the Italian restaurant had good gluten free pizza. Had we gotten the 'welcome' email earlier we would have known to bring food with us. It all worked out well in the end. We got our groceries, made our dinner and breakfast the next day. We used The Mission as a base to check out Watkins Glen and the Corning Glass Museum, and to hike in Letchworth State Park. There also seems to be hiking across he road. All in all, if you don't mind being off the beaten path it is a wonderful place to stay.

Unique and no frills
The mission is a beautiful building and a beautiful property! We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and really felt at home. Our room was very basic, don’t expect to be impressed by the rooms! We checked out letchworth Park and stony brook park in Dansville, both recommended by the owner, and we loved our time there! They are both about a half an hour from the mission. We would stay again! Next time we would bring more food because it was wonderful having kitchen access on our floor! I wish we had stayed longer, we were only there for 2 nights.

Unique Venue Makes for More Interesting Vacation
The property was amazing and comfortable. We felt more like we were visiting a friend than staying in a "hotel". For example, after a long day of hiking, we could come back there, sit on the lawn and enjoy the view and cook in the wonderful kitchen if we didn't feel like going out. The room was a good size and had what we needed. Kory was a great host. The location is good for visiting a variety of state parks.. our favorite was Letchworth State Park. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

We enjoyed our stay!!! It was relaxing and peaceful!!
The view was so beautiful!!! At night you could sit on the third floor balcony and watch the shooting stars. There was a great trail down to a quiet spot at one of the finger lakes. Pack a lunch and enjoy!! The rooms are spacious. Also, we enjoyed talking with other travelers. We would definitely go back!!!

Lots of pluses and minuses...but we will probably return.
First of all, an amazing place and property. We wished that we had more time to explore it, but we were attending a family reunion off-site. The Pluses: - Amazing historical old catholic seminary building(s). - Korey was very nice to deal with as our host. He met us at the door and showed us our rooms. - Fun hike across the road and down to the lake - we didn't go all the way down due to late start and hunger pains, but the topography is very steep and quite interesting. - Lots of space in the rooms and many common areas to use including a kitchen on each floor. The Minuses: - No key for our room door nor any way to lock it from the inside once settled for the night. This is a significant security problem. - No hot water on morning #1, but a text to Korey got it fixed for morning #2. - The buildings are essentially derelicts with seemingly endless things that need fixing, but this is actually part of the charm. We arrived right at dusk and it is a bit spooky too - but again this is part of the charm. Overall - we would probably visit again! The price is good when you need more than one room for your family group, and despite all the aforesaid minuses, it's just such an amazing place that we would enjoy returning to!

Not your average ho hum Holaday In Xpres Experience
We had a great visit to the mission. It's a beautiful old building in a beautiful out of the way setting. It was more like a hostel than a hotel...but, with a private room and bath. A shared Kitchen which worked well enough for our purposes. We didn't spend much time in the room other than to sleep. It was close to many other things to do in the area. Beautiful Sunrises. The room was quiet and not HUGE!! We were on the third floor at the end of... well, quite honestly, upon first look... it was The Shining hallway...we kept expecting to hear a big wheel go down the hall. But, it was a clean room, huge bed, the owners went to the extra trouble to add another single bed to the room which was quite comfortable. Each of the other two floors had other large parties of guests (families) staying in those rooms. We met one of the families and they invited us to their families get together at a local pub to listen to live music and have some food. What a delightful family they were, treated us as if we were family. The music was great, the family was fun and lively and the food was excellent. shout out to fanatics restaurant. Now that's not an experience you get at your every day motel/hotel. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The gentleman who owns the place was sweet and very helpful. The local area was full of charming shops and restaurants to visit. it was reasonably priced for the area and if you have a large group ..this would be the way to go for sure. If you do and happen to meet up with a two friends just out on a girls jaunt away from their husbands, invite them to join you... it will be fun. Thanks for the experience and not just another ho hum sleeping room.

10/10 – Utmerket

My son and I really liked the history and the Adventure this location offered. Korey was awesome to work with. It is an older building but the history and uniqueness of it all was worth staying here. And the room and area is so nice and quiet. We enjoyed hiking down to the lake as well. It was just us but I can see how awesome this location would be for a group of friends to meet and use the common areas. Wish we had more time to explore. Fun trip.
