We had never stayed in the Maine Highlands before, and this beautiful house on Schoodic Lake was the perfect introduction to life in Maine. As beautiful as the pictures on this website are, they do not do justice to how beautiful this home is. The owners made us feel welcome (as if we were part of the family). We have six children who spend most of their time in a crowded suburb, and our stay at this property was a great time for them to explore the woods and the lake, to roast marshmallows in front of the campire, to read by the bay window or on the screened-in porch, and to just be kids. Schoodic Lake is a beautiful, pristine body of water, and the little swimming cove was perfect for our 4 year old. If, like us, you have never been to this part of Maine, you need to see it for yourself. We took one day trip to Bar Harbor / Mt. Desert Island / Acadia National Park. We did not get to explore Baxter State Park and Mt. Katadihn, and we look forward to doing so on our next visit. On our way home, we made a point of driving through Dover-Foxcroft along Rt. 2 through the White Mountains of Maine. You really should rent this property, since you are getting a BEAUTIFUL home with a full eat-in kitchen right on a beautiful lake, in a part of Maine that gives you access to both mountains and sea shore.
