Built in 1832 as the home of sea captain John Kent, the house has been part of the island landscape for nearly two centuries. It later became home to the Sawyer Island Art Studio of artist Joseph Bailey Ellis, whose sculptures remain on exhibit at Carnegie Mellon University.
