Escape to our family-friendly modern mountain cabin on 13 secluded acres of woods and open field — the perfect peaceful retreat for large families and multi-generational getaways in the North Carolina mountains.
Wake up to breathtaking long- and short-range views of the Appalachian Mountains, including Mount Mitchell (the highest peak east of the Mississippi). Sip your morning coffee on one of the expansive covered porches that wrap two sides of the home, adding 850 sq ft of outdoor living space with rough-cut black locust floors and posts harvested right from the property. Salvaged eastern hemlock from the surrounding mountains was used for the porch rails and roof rafters. In the evenings, watch colorful sunsets and listen to the gentle calls of barred owls or the buzz of hummingbirds — the only sounds breaking the peaceful quiet.
Inside, antique furnishings blend cleverly with modern comforts. The home features four bedrooms: three on the ground level and one large upstairs bedroom with two beds, comfortably sleeping your whole crew. Everyone rests well on brand-new Casper mattresses. Beautiful, serene, and clean

Our stay here was terrific! We took a family vacation to the Ashland, NC area and stayed here for the entire week. We immediately felt welcome and comfortable at the house. The furnishings are well thought out, the entire place is very clean, and everything functioned as intended. The view from the porch is breathtaking, especially at sunrise; and we indulged in the outdoor fireplace in the evening. Especially nice for our three young children were the special kids nook upstairs, the drawers full of games, coloring books, and puzzles, and the myriad stuffed animals to play with :) The owners were very responsive, welcoming, and helpful and I highly recommend this house.

Wow!

This is an incredible property. The comfort and cleanliness of this home made for such an enjoyable stay with friends. The kitchen is well-stocked making meal prep easy. It is a bit out of the way and is up a windy road, but there were afternoons where we didn't leave the home and relaxed. I can't wait to return! Thank you so much!

Perfection

We stayed for 4 nights and it was absolute perfection. The accommodations were very nice and it was the most well stocked kitchen, for a rental, that we’ve ever seen. The views were like a painting and the fireplaces were so nice to have on the cool nights. I honestly can’t think of one bad thing to say about this place. The roads getting to the cabin are a little daunting if you’re not used to mountain roads but in no way would that be a deterrent for a return trip. Thank you again for an amazingly awesome stay.

Beautiful house, amazing views

Thoroughly enjoyed our family vacation with kids and grandparents. The house had everything we needed. Very clean and everything, including the house itself, is basically new. Views are amazing from dusk until dawn. It takes a minute to get there but we’ll worth the drive. We spent many hours on the deck enjoying the view of the mountains all around. Will definitely consider renting again.

Heaven on earth!

The cabin is amazing and the views are spectacular. The cabin was incredibly clean and well stocked with games for the kids and everything you could ever need in the kitchen. The hosts made the check in and check out process very simple, and they were always accessible.

Peaceful location with amazing views

The house is well decorated and felt like an upscale luxury cabin. The bathrooms are clean and beautiful. The beds and bedding were comfy. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook. The views were amazing and the outdoor furniture was perfect. The kids fought a bit over the outdoor swing which they really enjoyed. The sunrises were spectacular. The owners really thought about everything to make your stay lovely. The roads to the cabin are mountain roads. All paved but in some areas a bit tight. However there is little road traffic so everything was fine, but we just chose to be home before dark. We would love to come back and stay and wish all of our rentals were as nicely decorated and comfy as this one.

Perfect Fall Getaway

This lovely home and the beautiful surroundings far exceeded our expectations! The home was immaculate with every amenity needed and perfectly suited for families with games, toys, a “secret hobbit room,” and more. We went end of October / beginning of November, and the leaves plus beautiful property made us feel like we were on a postcard. Last, the hosts couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful, with suggestions on where to take our kiddos trick-or-treating and letting us reserve an extra night—because we loved it so much—after arriving. Highly recommend this home and the hosts!

Pure Perfection

We can not say enough good things about our stay. From the beginning the open communication from Bob and Dawn was excellent. As soon as you drive up to the cabin the views are amazing. The exterior landscaping…porches and view could not be better. Walking into the cabin you are greeted to a clean and welcoming home. You feel immediately at home and welcomed. The decor of the cabin is simply amazing. Every piece of art and furniture is well thought out and placed. The attention to detail is perfection. Anywhere you stand in the cabin has a breathtaking view. The large windows allow you to take in the mountains that surround you. The acreage that the cabin sits on makes you feel like you are the only people on the mountain. Each bedroom/bathroom has its own super comfortable bed…clean fresh linens and fluffy white clean towels. Beautiful showers and claw foot tubs await your use. The bedrooms all have large windows with lots of bright light. We have a 3 year old busy son. This home is perfect for anyone with children. From the extensive amount of games…books…drawing material…play dough… and special hidden nook our little one was able to stay content and busy our entire stay. We are already planning when we will visit again. The best cabin we have ever stayed in. If you are thinking of renting a home in this area do not pass this one up!!

Beyond Belief

The best place we have stayed, by far! Plenty of room, great games and activities for kids, seclusion and privacy at its best. Beds and linens were wonderful, spices and kitchen utensils were fully stocked. We will definitely be back again, and we are so thankful to the owners for making sure we felt comfortable and had everything we needed.

Amazing Week in the Mountains!!

This home was stunning!!!! It was clean, cozy, and built over looking fabulous mountains. Amazing Hosts!! We had a wonderful time sitting on the porch. House is fully equipped, a huge bonus. The only down side was it was 30-45 minutes to most places in Asheville and Hendersonville, although our goal was to be in the mountains and have morning coffee breathing in the fresh air and viewing the mountains. A fabulous week! We will return.

Perfect!

We stayed here with 5 children, ages 1 to 11. Plenty of room for the kids and they loved exploring around the house. House was clean and comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with many amenities and lots of games and activities. We loved the mornings and especially the evenings on the porch playing cards and being together as a family. Wonderful house! Can't recommend enough!

A perfect mountain home with everything you need including beautiful long range views!

Our family spent a wonderful and memorable spring break at the Kalmia Knob cabin. The owners have created a perfect mountain home, beautifully designed, constructed, and decorated, with every need thought of and provided for, making for a comfortable and scenic stay in a private, gorgeous location with amazing views. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms clean and plentiful, the kitchen well stocked and high end, the porch spacious with delightful outdoor fireplace, and the wifi fast and the smart tv full of viewing options (should you want those things). Our kids enjoyed exploring the woods and hills around the house, while my wife and I enjoyed relaxing with coffee and drinks on the porch. The house has everything you need (bring groceries, of course) and it would be a vacation in and of itself just to stay there your entire visit--we were tempted to do just that. But there are great opportunities for exploration in the surrounding areas, as well, for hiking, biking, water activities, and lots of other adventures in places like Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, DuPont State Forest, Brevard, etc., not to mention everything nearby Asheville has to offer. The hosts--Bob and Dawn--were terrific. They are very organized, accessible, and friendly. Our family hopes to rent with them, and stay at Kalmia Knob, again. It is truly a perfect mountain home!

Beautiful, secluded cabin with everything you need for a great stay

We loved the cabin. It was one of the cleanest rentals we've stayed at in awhile. They had so many toys for my kids to play with which was amazing since the weather didn't cooperate with us. The kitchen had more dishes, silverware, kitchen tools than anywhere else we've stayed which was perfect for making all of our meals there. Owners had excellent communication with the questions we had and a super helpful webpage with all the info you need to know about the cabin. Definitely arrive before dark if you can (don't make the same mistake as us) as the roads leading to the cabin are not lit and are very winding (the fog didn't help either). Would definitely stay here again without reservation.

Kalmia Knob

This beautiful home has amazing views of the mountains from inside with its tall windows /or outdoors enjoying rockers and the fireplace on wrap around porches. The walls, floors and ceilings are natural wood. There is a large family room with a rock fireplace which opens to a dining area and well appointed kitchen. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and very comfortable. This home is 20 minutes from Chimney Rock and 40 minutes from Hendersonville and Ashville. It is a beautiful home and I hope to return here again.

Terrific house in the mountains

This was a fantastic place to stay in the mountains. House is very clean, beautiful, cabin feel but with all modern amenities. The views from the porch are breathtaking. Our group of 8 from ages 5-75y were very comfortable and had lots of fun. There are so many things to do around the area as well Host was very hospitable, responsive and easily accessible. We would love to come back next fall!!!

Our extended family had a wonderful stay. Dawn was very helpful in advance of our trip and the kids *loved* all of the toys and games during the two straight days of rain! Far off the beaten path, in the best way. No cell service but excellent WiFi, no issues streaming. Would absolutely stay here again

Best Vacation in the Mountains Ever!

This rental was one of our Top 3 ever! It's DROP DEAD GORGEOUS. My family of 10 had an incredible time enjoying our Labor Day in Kalmia Knob! Let's start with the home itself. Everything is BRAND new. The showers, tubs, appliances, furniture, everything. The mattresses were SO comfortable which is never a guarantee in rentals. The water pressure and heat was unbelievable!! We miss it already! The living room was huge and so was the main dining room to fit 10 of us! We played dominoes each night, watched the new Mulan together on the Roku TV, and cooked each morning. BUT we spent most of our time on the wrap-around deck. They had a beautiful seating area that most of us would take blankets and talk until the sun would go down. They also had an outdoor fireplace with rocking chairs for both adults AND kiddos. They ALSO had a dining table outside. Pair that with the DOZENS of hummingbirds that would come to the house all day and drink water from their feeders. We'd just sit there in awe of the Blue Ridge Mountain views that had zero obstruction, listen to the hummingbird wings, and just relax. Complete detox from life, tech, COVID, etc. Location wise - it's worth every mountain road to get there. It's completely private and yet still 15 mins from Chimney Rock and all the yummy restaurants. We would venture out of the house each day but love coming home too. We hiked Chimney rock, went white water rafting in Tennessee, spent a day at the Biltmore, and would hang at our rental. Lazy mornings and late evenings. It was absolutely perfect. Let's talk about the Host! They were SOOOOOO kind. We arrived to a surprise bag of local coffee and bottle of wine plus they had stocked up some essentials for breakfast since we were flying/drive in late. They shared all details to WIFI, passwords, keycode, etc through a Host webpage that made it SO easy to follow. She checked-in on us throughout the trip and was so thoughtful with my boys. They also have small kids so my boys were going nuts with all the toys, cubby hole room, books, etc. I can't sing this place better praises. Will ABSOLUTELY come back and have told all my NC friends already. Thank you soooo much!
