Felt at home, friendly hosts, cute decor, comfortable bed, yummy breakfast peacocks and a goat! It's in middle of nowhere, but close to Death Valley - loved it, would stay here again.

It was extremely homey and comfortable. The owners were very kind and accommodating. There are cute animals everywhere and the place is out in the peace and quiet. Highly recommend!!

Reserved a room at SL through Expedia 3.5 weeks prior to staying.We arrive at 8 pm, where the co-owner and an employee (sitting outside in the dark) greet us.Instead of checking into the main building, they ushered us towards a back building.They told us we were upgraded for the night! Turns out they overbooked.This "upgrade" had a shared space (TV, kitchen, and dining areas).The employee was living in this building, with his own bedroom and bathroom.Co-owner reassured that this area was safe and all the doors were locked.She told us that no one could enter this area except the employee, who we were expected to share the space with. Our room had a mattress with a quilt and blanket (no sheets).We found makeup stains and grass clippings on the bed.For warmth, we were provided a dusty portable heater.There also was an avocado under the bed.There was no WIFI.The bathroom was across the hall from our room.You stood in 3-4 inches of water while showering because of drainage issues.Of course, the bedroom and bathroom had NO LOCKS!!! While we were getting ready at 8am the next morning, 3 men came in through one of the doors that co-owner said was locked the night before.Confusion and terror ensued!My friend yelled for them to get out because co-owner said this was a private area.At breakfast, we were upgraded to the bigger room in the main house for our 2nd night.Although at this point, I feel it's more to reduce any negativity and less about my state of security and comfort.

We apologize that you fele you did not have a good experience with us. We will and have learned from your visit. In mitigation the 3 airconditoning/electrical repair crew was escourted by myself and I politely let them in ahead of me instead of me going in first. At no time were you in danger and we would never endanger one of our guests. Also we have no employess only family members who are also owners.

This place is charming and unique beyond expectations. The peacocks are so beautiful. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. We'll go back for sure as soon as we can!

We loved this very eclectic place full of interesting history! The landscape was fabulous as you are out in solitude with high desert all around! The peacocks were so fun to watch & listen! We stayed in the Shady Lady cabin which was very private & unique! If you want a plain old hotel stay this is not the place for you! Jennifer & Nigel are welcoming friendly hosts & very accommodating! Delicious breakfast & great conversations! We plan to go back✌Ann & Richard

Had a great stay here. Unfortunately it was only one night. Jen and company were wonderful, the room was fantastic, breakfast was great, and the peacocks were beautiful. I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back.

The owners of the property were very friendly and helpful. Their B&B has a large flock of peacocks on it and I really enjoyed looking at these beautiful birds each day. The cabin I stayed in is really unique and has cool furnishings. Breakfast each morning was really tasty. Only drawback was that the B&B was a good 40-45 minute drive to Death Valley National Park. (Would have taken less time in the past, but a road on a shorter route has been closed for some time).

Was looking for a little adventure and this former brothel is now a very fun bed and breakfast!!! Jennifer and Paul are very friendly and accomadating. Some of the furnishings are from the former owners which gives it an eclectic feel. We stayed in the Asian room and was very clean and comfortable. A beautiful muster of peacocks roam the property adding to the unique feel. Probably would not have chosen to stay here but for all the excellent reviews! We agree it was a fun experience!!!

This has to be one of the most unexpectedly delightful overnight road stops we have ever had. We were just looking for something a little different and thought a stopover in a bed & breakfast converted from a previous brothel in Death Valley might be interesting. The Victorian room was totally charming and beautifully decorated, but the best part of the evening was sitting on the veranda sipping wine and getting to know our wonderful hosts Jennifer, Paul and Nigel. It was just like spending an enjoyable evening with old friends. If you are traveling to Death Valley or on Hwy 95 between Reno and Las Vegas, I would highly recommend a stopover at the Shady Lady Bed and Breakfast.

5 stars for the unique flavor, hospitality, quiet, hearty breakfast & price. Only drawbacks in my room were the slightly uncomfortable bed and forced air heat which made it hard to sleep until I dropped pillows on both air vents.

The owner of Shady Lady, Jennifer, is one of my favorite people in this whole wide world. We walked in and she was wearing a cheetah print coat and a bright orange hoodie and just looked cool as heck. Turns out - she is. Her and Paul were not only welcoming and accommodating, but became our friends over the two days that we stayed at Shady Lady. Jennifer is hilarious, she’s stylish, and she is so kind. She loves animals and she genuinely cares about her guests. She has a pet goat, cats, and about 40 peacocks and she takes great care of all of them. You can tell they are beloved. This was not only my favorite lodging of the trip - it was probably my favorite lodging ever. I would drive far out of my way just to spend more time with the two of them and to witness the beautiful mountains they’re surrounded by. Staying here is being part of history. It’s also being welcomed into a wonderful family. Shady Lady has a piece of my heart now. Jennifer and Paul stood outside and waved at us until they literally couldn’t see us anymore when we left. So much love here. So much goodness. That said, if you’re unlike me and want straight forward lodging with minimal interaction, they will absolutely accommodate that as well. I believe Jennifer has a strong sense of intuition for what people are looking for in an experience and adjusts according to what they need. The beds are super comfy and the themed rooms are exactly as they were when this was a functioning brothel.

This is a unique and lovely and clean experience for the passerby. The peacocks were only 2nd in fabulousness to the hosts. Even our fur baby got her own breakfast and lots of love. Thank you for a great stay!

Erg lieve en behulpzame mensen. Omdat we de enige gasten waren hebben we gratis een kamer upgrade gekregen. De kleine kamer was leuk Victoriaans ingericht. Niet echt praktisch voor een B&B maar wel heel gezellig. Enige nadeel. Het bed veerde en kraakte nogal waardoor je je heel voorzichtig omdraait om je partner niet wakker te willen maken. Te vergeefs overigens. Het ontbijt was prima, en erg gezond voor Amerikaanse begrijpen.

This bed and breakfast was wonderful! The host was excellent and offered suggestions for my trip to Death Valley. It is in a remote location but offers beautiful views of the sky and is very peaceful.

Me and my partner were exhausted when we checked in after a long drive, we were quickly set up so that we could rest. The room was comfortable, clean and had all the necessities that you could hope for. We slept incredibly well and it was exactly what we needed after the drive. From the moment we step foot in the door we were made the feel welcome. We were shown around and had everything explained to us so that we could relax without worrying about anything. Extremely friendly, attentive and hospitable. We were also offered drinks by the fire, which had we not been so exhausted we would have absolutely loved! When we awoke the next morning we were in a bit of a rush so I was given my breakfast to go, which was beautiful and started my day off perfectly. I cannot recommend this place enough and I only wish we could have stayed longer! If we find ourselves in the area again, this is the first place we will go!

Shady Lady B & B is 101 miles North of Las Vegas on the way to Reno. So in the middle of nowhere. Full of Peacocks and amazing Stars at night. Comfortable, safe, and interesting place to stay. I recommend staying at the Shady Lady Bed & Breakfast at Mile post 92. I did not stay for their breakfast, but I did hear from another guest that it was very good. I will definitely stay at the Shady Lady B & B again.
