It is not totally clear in the ad, but this is just a bedroom and bathroom on the upper floor of a house. There is a private set of stairs and entrance. However, the door from the bedroom to the rest of the house is just a standard bedroom door with a deadbolt to prevent access to the rest of the house. As a result, it was easy to hear the occupants of the house moving around at night, and light leaks around the door from the main house into the bedroom. There is a small hotel room style refrigerator, and a microwave in the bedroom.
The house is located in a wooded area, and it is very quiet, houses are spaced a large distance apart from each other. It was a bit jarring when we arrived as we were not expecting an occupied home, so there was some confusion as we got out of the car as to if we were at the correct location.
However, the photos in the VRBO listing show a hot tub. As we checked in there was zero discussion about access to, or use of, the hot tub. In fact, there was no apparent means to reach the hot tub from the room we rented, and the owner provided no information as we checked in regarding access to the hot tub.
The VRBO listing on this location also shows a beautiful swimming pool in a nighttime image with the pool lights on. However, the pool had a cover over it when we arrived, and remained covered the entire time we were at the location. And again, there was zero discussion during check in regarding the pool and no indication it was available for use. We were there over Memorial Day weekend,
I can only assume that both the pool and hot tub are actually not available to renters. It is certainly the home owners prerogative to not make all of the location available to tenants, but including those items in the VRBO listing with no disclaimers, certainly gives a reasonable expectation that those accouterments are part of the rental the tenant is paying for.
Also, there was a Wi-Fi access point shown on our devices, but the Wi-Fi is locked and requires a password. I sent a text message to the owner asking if the Wi-Fi was available and if they would give us the password. I never heard anything at all back from the owner regarding my question, so we had no Wi-Fi while at the location.
As long as a renter fully understands the reality of what is being rented, and the apparent limitations that items in the VRBO listing are not readily available to the renter, this can be a viable option for a quiet location.
