What a great, little hotel/bar that has its own character. Yes, it is slightly outdated and small.. but.. the sheets and room were clean and the bed was comfortable. Seems the bathroom had a small upgrade. the shower had good pressure and lots of warm water. If you don't want to share a bathroom, then make sure you choose private bath. Ask for the second floor to avoid the music from the bar. But you still have noise from the streets, but nothing that simple earplugs can't solve. Perfect location, walking distance to everything downtown. Good food at the bar and friendly service. If you want Hilton, go there. If you want a pleasant, simple, local experience, The Rex is the perfect place.

I liked that the check-in and check-out were very easy and very fast. The staff that assisted me were very friendly. I rented a room with its own bathroom and everything was clean. I didn't like that the windows weren't noise-proof so I could hear the cars passing by on the street. But in any case I recommend it, it is very central and good price.

Small room, shared bathroom facilities, but clean and fit for my stay. Could have used some form of refrigeration, but for the price it worked for me. Great Jazz/Blues bar.

A unique and well located place to stay. No elevator, late breakfast time and limited front desk time. The bed was slightly on the small side. Everything was clean and felt safe.

Very unique hotel experience, 2nd floor has communial bathrooms outside of the rooms which is a little inconvienent but not too much. Location was perfect for the event I attended. Would definitely come again.

Outdated. A small latch to lock the washroom door. Small 20' tv. Room was fairly clean with portable heater. Its ok for a roof over your head to sleep. Thats about it. The staff at the bar were friendly.

Staff very friendly. Noise in area at night was horrible with all the sirens and the 445 garbage truck emptying bins was horrible. Know they have no control over that but 2 nights and same thing. Alittle upset at how the shows go. We had gone to a ballgame in afternoon and returned around 710. Was going to have something to eat and enjoy a show. They would not let us in as they said show was about to end and the next one not starting til 830. We did not want to wait til 830 to eat so so went somewhere else. Should be some lenience for people staying there. Having been coming here for about 10 years now and love the location for getting around. Thanks.

The Rex has basic but adequate accommodation in a great location. I was in a very cosy single bed room with an en-suite just big enough for a shower, toilet and washbasin. Once I’d squeezed into the shower it worked fine. The rooms are above a busy jazz club so expect music til about 11 in the evening- they seem to have a regular rotation of bands (around 2 per evening) so you can always enjoy jazz (with a cover charge), a good selection of beers and basic but decent pub grub. Breakfast - consisting of coffee & toast - is included in the room price. The great selling point (apart from the reasonable prices) is the location: Queen Street is a hub of boutique shops, snack bars, and restaurants so there’s no shortage of places to eat right on your doorstep, to say nothing of handy cannabis shops. The CN Tower, Rogers Center, Aquarium, Lakeside areas, and Ferries to Toronto Islands are all within about a mile radius, and the Art Gallery of Ontario is much closer. So there are plenty of places you can stroll to- and Toronto is an easy waking city. Alternatively, Osgoode station is a couple of minutes walk away if you want to plug into the Metro network. A fancy hotel The Rex is not, a well priced place to crash in the heart of Toronto it definitely is

Rex Hotel is a perfect place to just set up and wander/explore the area. The location provides a convenient walk to central shopping/food/subway transportation. There's a drugstore right next to it as well if you need any necessities. It is located right above a dining spot/jazz club and it's a wonderful experience if you're winding down from the rest of your day. There is a shared bathroom, and the overall architecture is pretty dated (I had to push my door after I closed it on the inside to make sure it actually closed) but that is the only negative experience I had with this place.

Pire expérience à vie !! Premièrement l’entrée principale est barrer donc faux rentrer sur le côté de l’établissement,j’entre faire le Check-in Jean eu un ticket de 100$ même si mon auto est sur les 4 flasher durant 2 minutes ensuite 5 min plustard j’arrive au parking pas loin de l’hôtel,un autre ticket de 100$ !!! Il n’est pas indiquer en NUL PART qu’il faux payer avant (ce qui n’est pas le cas à MTL) lit vraiment très dur et petit , pas insonorisé dutout donc ont entant tout le night Life, les sirènes de pompier et tralala bref je me suis endormit à 3 am même si ont est rentrer à 22h …. Pire séjour à vie !!

Front desk staff and management were awesome, as well as restaurant staff! Made a mistake with booking, phoned and the woman at the front desk was so helpful and understanding! Turned what was about to be a very stressful day into an amazing evening. When we got back late from our event, we were able to catch some lovely live jazz and the restaurant staff went out of their way for us even though we were cutting it pretty close to closing time. Thank you!!

The Rex *is what it is* - an old-school affordable hotel that looks like something from a John Lee Hooker music video. For some, that's the appeal. For others, you'll get the luxury you want from a pricier place. Personally I love that you can stay here and walk downstairs for an excellent jazz show.
