Beautiful rural retreat!
We loved our stay at Johanna’s Kelafas home. The home was very private, beautifully decorated with many personal touches and everything needed for our stay. The grounds are beautiful, flowers, herbs, fruit trees! We especially enjoyed the fresh grate fruit! Great place to enjoy day trips to the beach, rural villages for an authentic Greek experience and restaurants in the area. Johanna was lovely and very responsive with recommendations to the area. Don’t hesitate to book her place!

Olive grove haven
The villa was very beautiful and in a wonderfully quiet location. Perfect for us. We loved eating and reading on the terrace in the Mediterranean garden with only the sound of cicadas and the occasional sheep bell. Johanna was a very helpful, solicitous and generous hostess. We enjoyed all the places that she recommended and were made to feel welcome. We would happily visit again. Thanks very much Johanna.

Für jede Tageszeit die passende Sitzecke
Tolles Haus für zwei Personen - einfach super. Alles da, was man braucht für einen erholsamen und entspannten Aufenthalt! Der Garten ist ein Kleinod. Für jede Tageszeit gibt es eine Sitzecke, die zum Verweilen einlädt: die Terasse am Morgen (Frühstück), die Dachterasse am Abend, eine kleine Ecke unter einem großen Olivenbaum für den Nachmittagstee und am Abend auf einem kleinen Hügel unter einem noch größeren Olivenbaum mit Blick auf die weißen Berge und den Sternenhimmel...unbezahlbar! Johanna ist eine sehr aufmerksame und freundliche Gastgeberin. Zum Empfang war der Kühlschrank reichlich gefüllt, sogar Eier der eigenen Hühner gab es: lecker. Johanna und ihr Mann betreiben einen Olivenhain und produzieren ihr Öl selbst: köstlich!! Im Ort gibt es einen Lebensmittelladen, mindestens zwei Tavernen und zwei Kafineons - alle sind fußläufig zu erreichen. Insgesamt ein rundum Wohlfühlpaket - wir können das Haus und die Gastgeberin nur empfehlen.

Traumhaft schöner Urlaub! Einfach super!
Wir haben unseren Urlaub in dem kleinen Häusschen sehr genossen. Die Natur, die Tiere, das Wetter, das Essen und vorallem Johanna, die Gastgeberin, war einfach top! Uns hat es an nichts gefehlt, in dem Haus war alles, was man braucht. 10 Tage vergingen wie im Flug und für uns ist sicher: Wenn Kreta, dann nochmal bei Johanna! Danke Johanna für deine wundervolle Gastgeberfreundschaft, deine Tipps und deine Hilfe bei allen Fragen. Wir empfehlen dieses Ferienhäuschen gerne weiter. Bis hoffentlich ganz bald :)

Ideal work-away location
My wife and I stayed here for a week in July. The cottage is thoughtfully designed, finished to a high standard, and well equipped (sharp kitchen knives are always a mark of quality!). Even during the unprecedented temperatures, we kept cool inside the stone walls under the ceiling fans, and outside in the numerous shaded sitting spots in the lovely garden. I managed a full week of remote working (comfortable table/chairs, convenient power, and reliable WiFi). Johanna was a great host - meeting us on arrival, with lots of great local recommendations, and reliably available by phone. We were also welcomed with a well stocked fridge, which was very kind. Daily visits from the friendly cats and dogs were great, but otherwise the house, garden and roof all felt private and peaceful. The house is in a semi-rural area but is well situated for exploring this part of the island. Highly recommended.

Beautiful property, quiet location
Sitting in an olive grove, with beautiful gardens around, this is a really comfortable villa. Everything you need with a sunny rooftop area. Friendly pets around and Johanna looked after us very well. Great walks nearby and a beautiful base for exploring the area. Two local restaurants in walking distance, a small supermarket, and Vamos with a brilliant bakery a short drive away.

Off the beaten track idyllic stone cottage oasis
The cottage completely exceeded our expectations, our stay was even better than the pictures. Wonderful attention to detail throughout and great amenities for our stay (the olive oil is the best!). The courtyard is the perfect spot for morning coffee, including the extra of the daily visits from the dogs; Teddy, Chica and Daisy who you come to adore very quickly. The rooftop deck is lovely and a great place for a workout, yoga and evening sunset views and cocktails or star gazing. Johanna is a fantastic host. provided us with great details and researched options to our questions pre arrival. She also reached out just prior to arrival recognizing we were coming in late and offered to do some shopping for us in advance which we sincerely appreciated. Great recommendations, beautiful location, the grounds are lovely with orange and grapefruit trees along with the beautiful wild flowers and olive trees. The village is high up in the hills, a car or e bikes are definitely a must. The area has easily accessible walking and well marked hiking trails. We had an extended stay of almost 4 weeks, we walked everywhere for a few weeks, we used the bikes and for further out exploring we had a car. It is a remote destination, very quiet and beautiful yet easy access to the bigger destinations. Johanna thank you for such a memorable stay and experience. peaceful hideaway
We enjoyed our one week stay in the Apokoronas a lot. Johanna''s and Rob's place is a hideaway with a very peaceful atmosphere. For us it was perfect to truely relax. The view of the white mountains is beautiful. Still, if you don't mind driving, several beaches and many places in western Crete are within reach. The place is perfect for a couple and looks like in the description. Kefalas has a minimarket and few basic places for food or drinks - just don't expect a party location :). For us it was all we needed.

Eine schnuckelige Unterkunft in einer zauberhaften Umgebung

Dear Johanna, thank you very much for the two wonderful weeks we were allowed to spend with you. We received a very warm welcome. Thanks to your recommendations, we discovered many beautiful things in the area. The recommended tavernas were also very nice. The house is lovingly furnished and lacks nothing. What a lovely place! We were visited by the cute dogs and cats in the mornings and evenings. The olive oil from your own production from the surrounding olive trees was a highlight when cooking. We had a great time and can highly recommend the house and you as a host.

Beautiful villa, brilliant trip!
We had a wonderful stay here. Johanna was helpful, responsive and kind in letting our daughter interact with the dogs. The villa is beautiful and was a highlight of our trip. It has lovely fittings and is set up with absolutely everything you need! The veggies, cheese, bread etc on arrival were much appreciated and the olive oil soooo delicious! There is plenty to see and do in the neighboring towns and the garden/rooftop are both lovely for relaxing before or after exploring for the day. Highly recommended!

Idyllisches Häuschen im wunderschönen Olivenhain
Mein Mann und ich durften wunderbare Urlaubstage auf Kreta im traumhaften Haus von Johanna und ihrem Mann verbringen! Obwohl wir erst um Mitternacht ankamen, wurden wir herzlichst empfangen. Ganz besonders aufmerksam war, dass der Kühlschrank mit Wein, Wasser und anderen Köstlichkeiten befüllt war! Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet, der Garten und die Terrasse wunderbar zum Sitzen und Erholen. Wir haben die Ruhe sehr genossen! Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Maison authentique avec beaucoup de charme
Très belle maison pour un séjour en pleine nature au calme, rien de mieux pour se reposer. La vue de la terrasse est fantastique au coucher du soleil. La visite quotidienne des chiens et chats des propriétaires est très agréable. Johanna a été très gentille et disponible avec nous. Nous avons eu droit à quelques courses dès notre arrivée pour faire une salade grecque, du pain frais et du vin. Incroyable ! Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir.

Wonderful off the beaten track nature stay
We selected the holiday house because we were searching for a place with a garden where our toddler could roam about safely. Location was not the first thing we looked at but actually we were pleasantly surprised by this beautiful region with lovely villages and wonderful nature. We got everything we hoped for and more. We were amazed by the natural diversity in the beautifully kept garden, the house was decorated with style and it was equipped with anything you need - even herbs, olive oil from the land, soap for the washing machine, toys for the kid, chargers etc. The bed linnen was amazing and we slept well in the cottage. Some nice sandy beaches are in good reach (by car) from the property so you can combine a hike with a dive or a village tour with a drink at the beach. Only the audio sensitive might have to consider bringing noise cancellation headphones, the cicades can get quite intense at times :-)

To the Greeks, cicadas are the sound of summer! Fortunately they only make their appearance during the hottest time of the year, generally July and August, and only in the daytime. So, if you go out on trips during the day, you'll hardly know about them. The 'compensation ' for noisy cicadas, is going to sleep to the soothing sound of the crickets at night. Fortunately, they continue into the autumn. :) I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay

Happy Love Nest
This is a very charming, well appointed and well located cottage that offers relative privacy, with owners close by for any assistance required. Much of Western Crete is easily accessible without feeling too close to tourist traps. As animal lovers we enjoyed regular visits from the owner’s cats and dogs! Ideal for couples looking to set up a great base to explore this glorious island.

Fantastisches Urlaubsquartier
Sehr schönes Haus mit herrlichem Garten, Sonnenterrasse und traumhaften Blick in die Berge. Durch die etwas abgelegene Lage sehr ruhig. Die Inneneinrichtung ist funktional und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Gastgeberin Johanna ist sehr gastfreundlich und hilfsbereit, beantwortet alle Fragen und hat für uns sogar einen Tisch in einer Taverne mit Livemusik reserviert. Alle Sehenswürdigkeiten der Gegend, Wanderrouten und der Strand sind in 30-60 Minuten mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Besonders schön sind die dörflichen Tavernen in der Gegend wo man noch keinen Touristennepp hat und gut kretisch essen kann. Wer im Urlaub seine Ruhe haben will und einfach mal ohne Menschenmassen ausspannen will ist hier genau richtig.

The Perfect Retreat
My husband and I loved our stay at Villa Oreastro! The interior is so warm and relaxing and the upstairs porch had stunning 360deg views with stunning sunsets. Johanna was so welcoming and even made us a reservation for us ahead of time at a local Greek taverna for Greek Easter lunch (best food I’ve ever had in my life!). And to top it all off, she has the cutest pups that come visit you everyday to say hello! We hope we can return to Crete for another stay in the future!

Viel Ruhe und Natur !
Häuschen , Terrassen und Garten sind schön und individuell gestaltet, vor allem die Küche ist sehr funktional UND stilvoll ausgestattet! Wer gerne kocht, wird begeistert sein von den frischen landwirtschaftlichen Produkten. Der selbst hergestellte Honig und das eigene Öl von Johanna und Rob sind eine Delikatesse !!! Da es im April abends und nachts noch sehr kühl sein kann, sollte man in der Lage sein, den Ofen richtig zu bedienen und genügend Feuerholz zur Verfügung haben. Die nähere Umgebung erlaubt viele abwechslungsreiche Wanderungen, die mit kurzer Anfahrt zu erreichen sind, z.B. durch Orangenplantagen entlang des Flusses Kiliarus. Empfehlen kann ich die sehr gut und frisch markierten Chania trails. Aber auch ab Haus kann man sehr schön wandern ! Die Blütenpracht und der ständige Blick auf die verschneiten lefka ori sind um diese Jahreszeit ein Traum ! Johanna und auch Rob sind herzliche Gastgeber. Man kann Kontakt haben, hat ( auch durch die Lage des Hauses ) aber auch seine Privatsphäre.

Himmel, Stille, duftende Natur im Olivenhain
Das Haus liegt mitten in einem Olivenhain und dennoch in Fussnähe des Ortes. Es ist ist ebenso geschmackvoll wie hochwertig und durchdacht eingerichtet, perfekter Rückzugsort für Paare oder Eltern mit kleinem Kind. Es gibt einen Garten mit schattigen Sitzecken und eine Dachterrasse mit spektakulärem Blick auf schroffe Berge und Himmel. Wer Katzen & Hunde mag, hat schnell neue Freunde - die britischen Gastgeber wohnen nebenan und bemühen sich liebevoll, so viel (oder wenig) Tierkontakt zu ermöglichen, wie ihre Gäste wünschen. Gastgeberin Johanna Heath verwöhnt mit eigenen Eiern, Honig, vor allem aber Tipps und viel spannendem Wissen über Land & Menschen. Bade- und tauchmöglichkeiten 10 bis 20 Autominuten entfernt. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Wonderful days in a lovely home
We can only confirm the previous comments! We spent only three days at the place since it was our first time on Crete and we wanted to explore other areas of it during our holidays. But we already hope to have the chance to come back to Kefala and will definitely stay longer to enjoy the peace of the house and its surroundings which was a perfect contrast to busy Berlin city life. The house and the garden has been created with love for detail and appreciation for nature. Johanna is a very kind and forthcoming host, taking care that you will feel comfortable as a guest. We enjoyed most the peaceful view from the roof terrace over olive trees on one side and the mountains on the other. But there are different places to relax, read, have a tea or wine, or just look and listen to the sounds of nature. Johanna told us also very interesting things about the different kinds of trees (and their characters) and other plants and we are already curious to see how everything will have grown in the future. We booked this house for some quite time before we had the big family and friends vacation and it was exactly what we needed. The house is a bit off the trouble, hidden in the mountains next to beautiful village Kefala. But still it is close to some nice beaches and Chania. Everything in this house is from highest quality and you will find everything you need. Johanna is a great host and she can give you good tips for some daytrips around the area. For us it was nice that she lives next door because it will get really lonely and really dark out there at night which provided us with romantic evenings under the breathtaking starry sky on the roof top of the house. If you want to get away from all busyness go there and just enjoy the quietness. We travelled with our 1 year old daughter and even she really enjoyed the peacefulness of that place. We will definitely come back soon. Thanks Johanna!

Fabulous place
Me and my sistar spent one week in this property. The villa and the garden and actually the whole space was fabulous especially the terrace. with a wonderful view. The property was provided with everything you can need during the stay there and if somthing was missing (but there wasn't) you can ask the owner Johanna and she responds you immidiately and helps with everything. Himmel auf Kreta
Wunderschönes Ferienhäuschen in einem Olivenhain. Ausgesprochen nette Vermieter. Das Örtchen Kefalas liegt in Fussreichweite. Alles top. Schön ruhig und idyllisch. Genau das richtige für sonnige Ferien auf Kreta. Wer dem Rummel entfliehen möchte, es schön ländlich mag, und trotzdem auch mal mit dem Auto zum Strand runter mag, der ist hier genau richtig!

six days in paradise
Wonderful house among olive trees, very well equipped with everything you need and a little more. Johanna is a very nice host who knows the best spots for swimming, dinner, hiking. We enjoyed the basket full of cretan products and the company of adorable cats and dogs. We stayed for six days - next time it definitely will be longer!

wunderschöner Ort
Wunderschön gemacht, das Haus ist mit Liebe und Stil eingerichtet. Allein auf dieser Terrasse zu sitzen -mehr braucht man nicht . Das Haus ist aber auch ein sehr guter Ausgangspunkt um Kreta zu entdecken. Die Besitzerin ist sehr nett und völlig unkompliziert Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

Traumurlaub
Für zwei Wochen war dieses wunderschöne, liebevoll eingerichtete Häuschen mit schönem Garten und vielen Olivenbäumen unser Urlaubsdomizil. Begrüßt wurden wir sehr herzlich von Johanna und Rob sowie ihren Hunden, von denen uns besonders Missy sehr ans Herz gewachsen ist. Johanna ist eine tolle Gastgeberin, die uns viele wertvolle Tipps für unseren Urlaub gegeben hat. Da wir sehr spät ankamen, war unser Kühlschrank mit leckeren Dingen und einer Flasche Wein gefüllt. Es war ein wunderschöner Urlaub. Sollten wir noch einmal auf die schöne Insel Kreta fahren, dann auf jeden Fall zu Johanna. Katrin und Ingo,

Wunderschönes Ferienhaus
Es ist wirklich ein wunderschönes Ferienhaus in den Bergen von Kreta. Einfach zum Entspannen und Genießen. Das Haus ist mit viel Liebe eingerichtet, dazu noch sehr hochwertig. Wer entspannen möchte und auch Tiere mag (vor Ort sind aktuell 3 Hunde, 5 Katzen, Hühner und Gänse), ist hier genau richtig aufgehoben. Zudem ist die Gastgeberin Johanna super nett und gibt viele gute Tipps. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und geben daher eine klare Weiterempfehlung.

The perfect house and location to enjoy one's holiday and to explore all that Crete has to offer!
The Villa Oreastro was key to our wonderful visit on Crete. Johanna was very welcoming and an ongoing resource - meeting us at a local kafeneon and sharing information on the ins and outs of the area. The house is well designed and beautifully laid out for a comfortable stay and greeted us with a kitchen stocked with local Cretan foods and fresh eggs from her chickens. The location was ideal - a peaceful rural setting yet close to the Chania Airport & Venetian port with easy access for excursions to beaches, gorges, Heraklion/ Knossos, traditional restaurants with music and more. The house also served as a base to explore Kefalas, surrounding villages and walking trails rich in folk traditions and ancient sites. We'll miss the view of the White Mountains from the rooftop terrace!

Perfekt für Ruhe, Erholung, Aussicht, nette Menschen und Tiere
Eine der wenigen Unterkünfte, die ich auf Reisen hatte, bei der Eindruck, der durch Beschreibung und der Bilder vermittelt wird, absolut stimmt und eher noch übertroffen wird. Liebevoll eingerichtet, perfekt ausgerichtet, tolle Dachterrasse, nette Tiere, noch nettere Vermieter. Fahren Sie hin (aber bitte nicht dann, wenn ich selber wieder hin möchte). Nur zu empfehlen!
