We rented this spot for a long weekend with friends and our collective kiddos (2-5 years). I’ll start with the good stuff:
The waterfront component of this property is what makes it great. There’s a back patio with a hot tub, two tables and big umbrellas, and a gentle slope down to the water. The beach here is not sandy - more so shelly and silty - but kind of in a protected cove and very shallow/warm for a ways out. This was perfect for young kids; it felt safe and comfortable for them to splash around in, with clams, crabs, tiny anemones to look at. And swimmable for adults! It’s also super easy to take out the kayaks and paddle board. We all took turns alone and/or with the kids, and saw giant lions mane jellyfish and curious seals (including one young dude who really loved people!). Many eagles too. The beach was the highlight. Also a nice tv in the main house to relax and watch cartoons, and plenty of dining space. And the manager was very communicative and pleasant and provided clear instructions.
As for the not-so-great: when we first arrived we were a little taken aback by just how old the main house is — not much has been updated, and the second floor has some significant settling that adds a tilt to part of the floor. When we arrived it was also an 83 degree day and since everything was locked up, the house - particularly the bedrooms and sunroom - were broiling. Luckily the bedrooms cooled down after running the AC units for a bit, but be aware the super cute sunroom is not comfortable in the afternoon in summer. Lovely in the am and nighttime. It’s worth noting the guest house seems like a converted garage, with concrete floors on the first floor and dim lighting that didn’t really inspire hanging out. The 2nd floor is cozier with carpeting, and stayed cooler with the AC, but definitely has some rougher edges too. (For example, the overhead lighting was essentially installed by sawing a rough rectangle out of the drywall above and sticking in large fluorescent lights.) The one bathroom in the guest house is also pretty far from the sleeping area, which matters more with a little kid. But it was fairly comfy, could sleep many, and the first floor was great for our dog to hang out. It’d be perfect for teens too!
Overall, while the aging of the main house left some polish to be desired, we really enjoyed our stay there. Pretty wonderful for groups, especially kids or teens, but really anyone who enjoys being in the water!
