Overpriced hotel, excellent chef
The hotel is a reinvented manor house with a great Normandy location, wonderful grounds and a superb chef. However, there are flaws in technical standards, upkeep and service levels that one would not expect in this price range.
First of all, the reception was hardly were friendly, asking if we wanted a "classic" or a "premium" room when we had prepaid a premium one (and on departure we had to pay extra tax on the room, even if this was marked as included when we bought it). We were then escorted to the reaccomodated former stables by the parking lot, which also constituted the view from the windows, the view there was, since most of it was blocked by a concrete staircase. Quite disappointing when the hotel boasts the wonderful views from the rooms.
The layout of these accomodations also left a lot to be desired: There was no sound proofing at all, so we woke up from every single noise made by our neigbours moving up those stairs and into their rooom above us. Also, in the quite spacious bathroom there was a separate toilet, but so small you could hardly close the door and with an unmarked tile edge bound to hurt your toes.
The best part about the hotel was its poolside dining room, really quite beautiful. But the windows toward the setting sun were dirty and the silver unpolished, and the food (otherwise excellent) was lukewarm at best by the time it reached our table.
All in all - a wonderful, but overpriced place that could do with a bit more attention to detail.
