«Great location, inside the Fontevraud Abbey, albeit a long way from the parking to the reception. Even if they offered transport to and from, it was not always available. The hotel appeared new, and was clean and fancy. Huge drawback in this hot summer was the lack of real A/C, only a noisy portable unit which added to sleeping problem. «This was a hugely disappointing stay. We had spent two nights on the other side of the river on our way down through France and had hoped for better things. Our experience was that we were 'end of season', that staff had lost interest in their guests. We had a very matter of fact welcome and from then on may as well not have been in the hotel. «The Chateau Colbert has been extensively restored over the past 20 years or so to a very high standard. This has obviously been a labour of love for the present owners. The rooms are very comfortable and the views over the river and forests were outstanding. The food and service were exceptional and the dining room was a wonderful place to eat. They have the largest Japanese garden in Europe which we definitely return to see. The Chateau is highly recommended.»
