Highly recommended for independent travellers.
The Amon hotel has an excellent reputation that is thoroughly deserved. It is basic compared to large hotel chains but very clean and the service is warm and friendly. The food at the hotel is delicious and inexpensive plus you can buy beer! The beds were comfortable and the shower was hot. An extra piece of soap would've been nice. Their laundry costs are quite expensive but their is a local laundry nearby that charges only EP10 per piece. Because it is located on the West Bank, you save lots of time getting to the main tourist attractions.

Amon Hotel is a very nice, quiet place to stay on the west side of the Nile in Luxor. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from the ferry and once you are off the main road, there are signs that point you where to go and the hotel is clearly marked. The owner is very nice and his kids are fun - they showed us all around the hotel and were very welcoming. It seems to be a very family-friendly place. The rooms are simple but clean and in good condition. The atmosphere of this hotel is very peaceful. And they were kind enough to arrange a driver for us for everything we wanted to see. We would stay with them again!

Authentic and rustic Located on the quieter West Bank, the hotel (more of a large guest house) is bang in the middle of a village of locals and gives this place a really authentic feel. The locals in the town centre can harass you extensively, but those in the neighbourhood just want to say hello or get on with their day. I haven't always felt safe in Egypt travelling solo, but here I feel completely at home! Every single member of staff is fantastic. Not all of them speak much English, but they'd do anything to make your stay more comfortable. At least three of the staff speak English well: The owner, Mahmoud, usually hangs around the hotel but also lives locally and treats his guests like family. Ahmed will always greet you with a smile and a warm welcome and Talab is a perfect gentleman who will drive you wherever you need to go. The rooms are divided into three blocks, which have been added at different times. Block one has the best rustic feel. My shower wasn't working properly and Mahmoud proposed a number of solutions. Eventually, I moved to a room in the newer block. Most rooms overlook a beautiful green courtyard with exposed and shaded outdoor seating and a pool. There is also a restaurant on site with indoor and outdoor seating. Everything is reasonably priced, tours can be organised in house, and there's a little shop around the corner for things like bottled water staffed by a couple of lovely ladies who speak no English but will not rip you off.

I am Japanese and came to Egypt alone. Amon Hotel is the best hotel. The owner and staff are all kind. Even though I couldn't speak English or Arabic, they kindly talked to me. There is air conditioning, the rooms are clean, and the food is delicious. It was a great memory. I want to go again. Sorry if I caused you trouble. Thank you everyone!

Nous avons été super bien accueillis par Ahmed dans un endroit paradisiaque et relaxant. Ses enfants et le peronnel très souriants ont été un plus à notre séjour. L'endroit est très propre et la nourriture de son restaurant est très bonne, fraiche et variée. L'accès d"une rive à l"autre est proche et pas chère en ferry. Et vous n'êtes pas dans la cohue de Est Bank. Nous recommandons vivement cet établissement

Das Zimmer war großzügig, ebenso das Bad, Das Bad war offenbar erst vor kurzem erneuert. Alles ist gefliest und gut gereinigt (und bleibt es auch). Das Zimmer hatte eine gut funktionierende Klimaanlage und einen leisen Ventilator, man hat also selber die Wahl,was einem gerade lieber ist. Auch ein kleiner Kühlschrank ist vorhanden. Das Hotel verfügt über einen hübschen bepflanzten Innenhof in dem auch das Frühstück serviert wird, dort findet sich auch ein kleiner Pool. Angenehm ist es auch mal auf die ansonsten unbenutzte Dachterasse zu gehen, zum Beipiel um morgens in der Ferne die Ballone am Hatschepsuttempel aufsteigen zu sehen. Die Lage des Hotels ist angenehm, der Fähranleger ist in fussläufiger Nähe: eine günstige Möglichkeit zur andern Nilseite und dort direkt zum Luxormuseum zu kommen (von mir -deutlich alsTourist zu erkennen- wurden zwischen 7 und 10 Pfund verlangt). Es sind auch viele kleinere Lädchen für Getränke und Speisen in der Nähe. Besonders toll fand ich die Möglichkeit, dass mir von Hotel ein Fahrrad besorgt wurde, mit dem ich alles auf der Westseite gut erreichen konnte. Auch das Tal der Könige (inkl. West valley) war trotz leichter Steigung mit dem Mountainbike in problemloser Entfernung und der übrige Verkehr rücksichtsvoll. Preis: 200Pfund pro Kalendertag. Dies war meine erste Station in Ägypten so kann ich im nachhinein sagen, dass das Essen im Hotel OK aber im Vergleich auch etwas teuer war. Fazit ich würde wieder dort unterkommen wollen, Empfehlung.

This hotel is a diamond discovered by reading reviews and choosing one with no less than 9/10. Fortunately, Amon was the perfect hotel for us. The staff was friendly and always delivered what we needed. The breakfast and lunch was delicious and memorable. The simple room had everything we needed. Our balcony overt looked into the courtyard and when you’re in the courtyard you feel calm. Should I get back to Luxor, I’d be sure to stay here again.

Mostly disappointing
I expected more based on the reviews. I was traveling solo and picked the cheapest room, but even so, in comparison to similarly priced rooms in Cairo, this room was quite bad. Maybe it was because I checked in late at 11PM, but that makes it even more important to have the room ready for a tired guest. The toilet seat had urine stains, there was no soap, and the shower was broken. All of this was fixed the next day, but these are basic things. And the hot water ran out in under 10 minutes, maybe the heater was old. The water pipes made this wailing sound whenever someone in the building used water I guess. And incredibly, the water was shut off in the middle of the night probably to stop the wailing. I had a bit of food poisoning (yeah, great few days), and I had to use the little water left in the pipes in the middle of the night. I also had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to my room, in the older building, which is fine as I am fit, but still an effort when sick. On the positive side, the garden dining area was very peaceful, and the staff were friendly. And the breakfast was good. But I really can't recommend staying here based on my overall experience.

The Amon Hotel is my favorite place to stay in Luxor! It is clean and comfortable, with a beautiful garden and restaurant, where you can get authentic home cooked Egyptian food that is really delicious (I recommend eating dinner here at least once during your stay!). It is located in a quiet neighborhood close to the ferry to the East Bank, but also close to all the attractions on the West Bank like Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple. The staff are welcoming and eager to help you navigate Luxor. They are great tour guides! I recommend the Amon hotel to all my friends!

Beautiful garden and rooms with high ceilings looking out onto the garden. Friendly and helpful staff. This hotel is on the west bank which is much quieter and near the main sites (valley of the kings, nobles etc). A lovely boat ride takes you to the main temples on the east bank.

The best hotel service I've ever experienced. The hotel was clean, the garden/courtyard was beautiful and relaxing to eat a meal that is availabile at any time made by the hotel, and the room was just what my friend and I needed after a long train journey from Cairo. The best part of the service however was the care the staff took when I fell hopelessly ill and need to desperately be taken to hospital. The went out of their way and made sure i was brought to hospital and that i had the medicine necessary to recover. The hotel staff was like a friend and didnt leave my side until we returned to the hotel and even then they checked in on me to see i was okay. True Egyptian hospitality, thank you Amon! 🙏

The Amon was a fantastic way to experience life on the West Bank. A common stopping point for archaeologists working in the area, it offers comfortable, clean rooms and a luxurious garden for meals. The staff are kind and courteous and everyone will make sure your stay is as wonderful as it can be.

Cet hôtel a plusieurs avantages. Premièrement, il est placé sur la rive ouest du Nil, qui est plus calme que la rive est et plus près des lieux à visiter. Deuxièmement, il est très tranquille et joli, notamment grâce à son joli jardin. Et troisièmement, le propriétaire Mohammed et les membres du personnel sont très gentils et serviable. Je recommande !

Really conveniently located nect to the ferry that departs from the dock nect to the Luxor Museum. with 5 Egyptian pounds one way, you get to enjoy brief beautiful view of the Nile River. 7mins walk from the ferry to the hotel. Beautiful garden with spacious room. Basic amenities.

Amon Hotel - West Bank recommendation
We stayed 8 nights (December 2019). Despite arriving after 9pm, food was available and we chose the set meal, a freshly-prepared feast of soup, salad, main, rice, side and dessert (150 LE), served in the delightful garden. The food was so good, we quickly decided to eat here every evening. After a busy day exploring, it was great to relax with a wonderful meal and a drink (alcohol available), the menu changing daily. Breakfast was also very copious. Our simple room had an en suite shower and toilet and the great advantage of hot water and free wi-fi 24/7. Our balcony overlooked the garden, and there was a large ceiling fan. The room was cleaned daily, bed linen and towels changed every other day. Every afternoon we came back to find a little surprise. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive, yet also discreet. There was always someone available if needed. The managers are keen to help in any way, including changing large notes for small ones – essential for taxis, tips, etc. Other benefits include: check-in available 24 hours, breakfast included in the reasonable overnight rate, other meals served from lunch until 10pm. The hotel is only 12 minutes’ walk from the ferry, and taxis are easily found nearby. The West Bank is much quieter than the East Bank and people are friendly. The Amon offers very good value for money. On our last day, we left very early, and were given a substantial breakfast box. If we return to Luxor, we shall definitely stay at the Amon.

Nice hotel in quiet neighborhood
Amon Hotel was great. It's located in a quiet neighborhood on the west bank, and the area seems less touristy and feels more authentic. The included breakfast is simple but good. All the staff was very friendly. Keep in mind that the airport and a lot of major attractions are on the other side of the river, and the only bridge is far out of the city, so you'll have to take the ferry to get across and back, but that is easy and cheap.

The owners and staff made our trip to Egypt memorable. We took the public ferry to and from the east bank. The Amon is a short walk from the ferry. There are signs showing the way, Just keep your eyes open to find them. I am sure, that if asked, they would meet you at the ferry. You can take a taxi from the east bank but it takes longer. The amenities are simple, primarily a lovely garden with interesting plants and rocks. The food and service are excellent. We found the Egyptian people warn and welcoming everywhere and nowhere more so than at the Amon. There is a stable nearby for riding. I hope to return in the near future. The rooms are simple but clean. BTW, there is no elevator.

Excellent hotel, an oasis on the west bank, Luxor
The hotel offers much that a traveller to Luxor may want. It is on the west bank, offers a cool restaurant in the garden and is located within a walking distance of the ferry stop on the Nile. The staff is excellent and very friendly. During the quiet season we were treated to a choice of local cuisine, including a meal of delicately cooked pigeons.The service is very good and the standard of cleanliness high. Family friendly. We have stayed here twice and recommend it highly.

Nice Hotel
The rating is purely based on the service and friendliness of the staff only. The location is not great, but we dropped off on the gate and picked up from the gate so we have no issues, but I am not sure is it safe to walk on the street in the night. it's basic hotel no kettle, no drinks on the room, no TV, no phone and the internet speed is not good. But we stayed for 2 days, even though we have all the above concerns, the staff are excellent and the service from them like a 5 star hotel.

Oasis in Luxor
This is an interesting place. Once you settle in and meet other guests, you realize this is very "homey" as other reviews have said. The area is not attractive. Hotel non-descript from the outside, but like a riad in Morocco, when you come inside it is a little paradise. Lovely, large patio area with tables and plants and a fire at night (it got chilly in January). Great way to meet folks, some of whom have been coming here for 20+ years. And after a while, you understand why. Food was only OK, but staff very caring and friendly. Being on the west side of Luxor is ideal for visiting sites. And the ferry across the Nile to the two temples is a few minutes walk and only 1 EGP (about 5 cents US). Should have stayed longer!

Lovely place to stay
Very nice rooms, peaceful location on the West bank handy for the tombs etc. outside of Luxor. Really gorgeous garden in the central courtyard where meals can be had or just sit around and chat. Ferry to the main town is a five minute walk and takes only a few minutes on the water. Food was also the best I had in Egypt. Not an exaggeration - do eat here at least once for dinner.

very late check in and was given tea, bags carried to and from room, nice clean basic rooms. The owner Amu Ahmed is charming, friendly and helpful as were the staff. Early departure and a breakfast box was waiting for me at the reception and someone came to my room to make sure I was awake and carry my bag ot the taxi.

Obwohl ich der einzige Gast im Hotel war, hat sich das Personal alle Mühe gegeben mir den Aufenthalt angenehm zu gestalten.Das Zimmer war recht sauber.Eine Tour mit deutschsprachigen Tourguide nach Abydos und Dendera war vom Hotel sehr gut organisiert. Das Essen wird frisch zubereitet und schmeckt abhängig wer gerade kocht meistens sehr gut, manchmal aber auch geschmacksarm.Wifi war sehr gut, wenn man bedenkt, wo man sich befindet. Jeden Morgen so gegen 415 Uhr gehen Lautsprecher in der Nähe an und es wird scheinbar zum Gebet gerufen. Einen Langschläfer wie mich hat es genervt, weil es ziemlich Lange geht und laut war. Wenn man von der Fähre (1 EGP) kommt, fällt sofort ein Fahrradverleih an der ersten Ecke auf.Hier habe ich zweimal Fahrräder mit Schloss ausgeliehen (20 EGP/Tag). Es sind recht schrottige Räder, aber beide gingen nicht kaputt. Wofür das Hotel nichts kann sind die aufdringlichen Verkäufer an jeder Straße. Ob Taxifahrer, Kutschfahrer, Geldwechsler, Bootsanbieter oder Sonstiges, jeder versucht trotz mehrmaligen "Nein" auf Einen einzureden. Auf meinen Weg zum Bus nach Hurghada (Gobus 45 EGP) hat mich ein Kutschfahrer als "Garbage Tourist" beschimft, weil ich seine Kutsche nicht genutzt habe. Wegen solchen Leuten habe ich Ägypten so schnell wie möglich verlassen. So gut wie Nirgendwo in Ägypten habe ich mich als Mensch gesehen, sondern nur als laufenden Geldautomaten.
