Very old hotel, charming and quaint, its beachfront but unsafe to walķ to beach, bothered by homeless beggars and illegal sellers..parking was safe and secure at the rear. Staff was friendly, helpful and very pleasant. As my wife is disabled the first disabled room was unsuitable due to the shower . We were moved to a better equipped bathroom which improved our stay.

The personnel went out of their way to make it a good experience. The politeness of the staff was evident right from the security guard outside to the cleaners.

Old style colonial hotel like going back in time! Very helpful staff. Lovely setting right on the beach in Durban. Some of the fixtures and fittings could do with refreshing or updating - for instance stair carpets very worn. Overall a very good experience though.

Totally appalled to arrive home to the UK to be informed that my credit card had been subject to credit card fraud of a few hundred GB pounds and I know that it had to be by a member of staff at this hotel. So watch out there are criminals at this hotel.

Other guests are noisy and security is slack in controlling the noise. Street noise (prostitutes) are plentiful - keep windows closed

The hotel is a bit old, but it was fine overall and had a touch of class given its age, which i liked. Room was a little small but not too small and was fairly clean. Street was a little noisy and the guys on the street yelling and talking in front of the hotel. For the price, its reasonable, but not great. I asked for a late check out - leaving on a Monday - I came to check out 30 minutes after the time and the guy at the front wanted to charge me. With all the hotels and traveling I have done, that was the first time I have had someone say that to me, especially after I informed them of a late check out. I refused but it left a sour taste in my mouth, so to speak.

Ett gammalt hotell som behöver en uppfräschning. Jag fick byta rum då mitt första luktade unket. Det är ganska ljudligt från gatan men bor man på andra eller tredje våningen är det ok. Helt ok frukost.

Good service, great price. Enjoy the old grandeur.
This is the very first hotel built on the Durban beach in 1890's. It still has the grand feeling, but it's just old now. My room was very nice with up to date bathroom. They have free car parking and park it and bring it around for you if their lot is full. I enjoyed them keeping the antique parts of the old grand hotel. Check in was super fast, as they had our room already for check in. Also, they have a secure internet where most other hotels just have a non secure connection. They are very near the Ushaka (sp?) Marine exhibition.A smaller carnival is in front of the hotel on the beach, but it didn't bother us.. We did not eat there, but one of the front desk people gave us an excellent suggestion for an Indian restaurant for dinner about 15 minute drive away.. Loved looking at the old pictures of the hotel and area from 100 years ago.

MAKE US AWARE NO BREAKFAST AT TIME OF BOOKING
Stay was good. However, was caught unawares with no breakfast - in my previous stays breakfast was included in the price , thus i expected breakfast to be included this time as well. It should be mentioned in the booking whether breakfast is included or not - so that we may accept or adjust.
