Fantastisk
Sjarmerende hertugslott som var omgjort til hotell.
Delightful old building built around a central courtyard. The room was large and well furnished. The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to the town centre. Quiet area around the hotel even for rooms looking out onto streets. Secure car parking. Beautiful gardens. Wide choice of food for breakfast and interesting dinner dishes.
We stayed at the Hotel Duques de Medinaceli for two nights in September. On the plus side, parking is free and seemed very secure. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre and we found some lovely and inexpensive restaurants for dinner. Upon checking in, the two standard rooms we had booked were upgraded to junior suites, which was really nice. However, I think the cleaning staff hadn’t quite finished their job in one of the suites – as there was no bathmat, no bathrobes and very little toilet paper in one of our bathrooms (which were then supplied on the second day of our stay). The public areas of the hotel are a bit atmosphere-less. We found it a bit strange that you couldn’t just walk through the front door during the daytime without ringing the doorbell (maybe there is some kind of security issue we weren’t aware of?). The swimming pool is tiny (we actually walked past in on our first day, as we thought it was a garden pond), the water was a bit ‘greasy’ and there were lots of ants crawling around! Wi fi is free but kept dropping. The safe wasn’t working in one of our rooms, so we just had to take our chances with our passports and valuables during the daytime. This is not a five-star hotel by our standards in Ireland. There was no evidence of anyone senior/manager around the hotel at any time – so, while the service was certainly friendly, it was a bit slow at times (particularly the check-out on our final day).
