Is it nice to stay in downtown and not worried about fighting the traffic or trouble to find a parking space?

This 2-story historic Charleston apartment is in the heart of Charleston. It is close to everything. You walk or take a pedal cab to wherever you want to go. You will be in the middle of downtown Charleston with abundance of shops and restaurants. City Market and Colonial Lake are only 5 minutes walking. This cute small 500 sqft space consists of 1 bedroom, bath, kitchenette and small living area.

The unit is located in one building that the front is the main house and your unit is the rear one.

The apartment is roughly the size of a studio, but split between two floors. If you have heard about tiny house, this unit is similar to a tiny house. On the first floor is kitchenette and a set of a folding table and stools for two people. The folding table has its own wheel so you can move it if you want . On the second floor, there is a small living area where you can seat to enjoy your cup of coffee.

The kitchen area features a refrigerator, sink, microwave, and coffee maker and gas stove.

The bedroom has a queen bed, TV and closet. The bathroom has a shower and toilet. Please note that this quaint space is not suitable for people who are taller than 6 feet. If you are looking for a place to stay simple, stay local then you are in the right place. This place is nothing fancy. The nightly rate is priced accordingly to the current condition of the apartment (needs some paint, floor is old…). Location is the key and you have free parking space (for standard size vehicle) so please do not expect a higher end hotel stay experience. Charleston is diversified area and we are next to low and middle income housing. In the same block, you would see a mix of all classes, for example blue collar, white collars, college students, elementary kids, poor folks and the rich folks...

Great Value
This property met our needs. My daughter and I were attending orientation for CofC. It was in close proximity to the school and we could easily walk to all events as we did not rent a car. My only complaint is that we needed to store our luggage after checkout because the orientation lasted throughout the day and our request was declined immediately. The property was very big and seemed empty of any other people, so it seems our luggage could have easily been stored on the porch or on the side of one of the buildings. Being stuck with our luggage turned into a huge inconvenience. When I booked another VRBO for move-in day next month, our request to store luggage was immediately accepted. I wouldn’t book this property again.

Good location/noisy/musty
The location was good and clean upstairs. However, the AC window unit didn’t work which made the upstairs a bit musty. The mini split barely kept things cool. The renters attached to our unit were extremely loud and up until 4am. Bring ear plugs!

Location, location, location
This property is located near the College of Charleston and in a spot where you can easily walk to any of the usual restaurants, waterfront, museums and shopping. This unit is in the back of the property and has essentially a full kitchen downstairs and upstairs is a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom (shower). Although the listing says it's not for tall people, I think the bathroom is truly the only area that height would be an issue, but even then I think you would be ok. Having a spot to park and being able to walk wherever you might want to go is so convenient. Also the free carta bus is nearby as well. This is an older building so some of the quirks that come along with that are noteable. The unit itself is clean where it counts (bathroom, sheets, towels, kitchen). Other areas have a layer of dust (mouldings, sills) that really need a good scrub/paint. But it's not anything that is concerning in terms of the rest of the unit or would affect our stay. The best part about this unit is the ease of location and having access to all of the sites and places that Charleston has to offer. It was quiet at night and we never felt like we weren't safe and we're comfortable walking in all of the neighborhoods.

Less than desirable
The description of this property is fairly accurate. Please read carefully as the house is directly across the street from the projects. The home smells musty/moldy, the upstairs is very small and only good for sleeping or using the restroom. There is a large window in the “sitting area” that also has a light on the outside that disrupts sleep (no shade or curtain). We also requested an early check in (2 instead of 4) IF the room was available. We were granted this, however with a $20 charge ( which we were told was a “discount.” We did agree, no other VRBO has ever charged for an early check-in IF the room was available. After checking in, it appeared that no one had been staying there previous to our arrival. If there was, no one cleaned the smashed bug on the ceiling above the head (blood streaked). I understand Charleston is expensive; just realize you get what you pay for.

Location was amazing. We walked everywhere and the fact that you are one block from a target for anything your forgot as well as snack for the place was icing on the cake. The place was clean and stocked with your basics and the bed was very comfortable. Could not have asked for more.

Great location!
Our stay was as expected - the parking space in downtown Charleston so you can walk to everything is the main driver for our choice. It met our needs (mostly a place to stay while visiting friends). We were within easy walking distance of 82 Queen (and most everything) and very easy access to get to Folly Beach to see friends. The only note is the A/C can be noisy - but no reason there to not rate our stay 5 stars.

Harleston Village
This place was a very convenient location for walking into town. I am 6ft 3in, and although it said not to book for people over 6ft, we did and it was fine. The shower was just a little tight! As we were pulling up, our Uber told us that this rental was across from the projects, but that didn’t bother us and we felt safe. There was always another group of tourists walking by at night as we returned to the property and there are plenty of cameras outside the property as well. Definitely one of the more affordable options to rent. Unfortunately, this rental was not clean to our standards. There were multiple hairs on the wall in the bathroom, and we found a few hairs that did not belong to us in the bed/bedding's. The general space was neat, but I don’t think it was as clean as it should have been. The location into town was great and there’s a cute little coffee spot 2 doors down.

This tiny little apartment is a unique space in a GREAT location. Perfect if you plan to walk around and eat out a lot. Plus the included parking spot was a bonus. Would stay there again!

Perfect location for younger folks! If you want to walk downtown it's a great location with private parking. Watch the water temp if people are in the larger attached rental using water at the same time as the water will get super hot. Significant drop down entering the property, use caution, no outside lights. Recommend night lights throughout to illuminate difference in floor height to different parts of rental.

Just a place to sleep, nothing more
The layout felt wrong. Kitchen on ground level felt like being in a basement. The very small sitting room had a floor that creaked loudly with every step taken. Barely enough room to walk around bed to bathroom. The carpet on stairs was in need of replacement. While being clean, not conducive to anything besides a place to sleep.

Clean, convenient location, budget friendly option
The price was lower than comparable VRBO alternatives, and the ad for this spot was very honest about why. For us it worked perfectly well. The property was very clean, bed & pillows extremely comfortable, kitchen very well equipped, and the location enabled us to get around the city without a car. We had several walks through lovely neighborhoods because we were staying at this VRBO. The owner answered questions promptly and accomodated a need we had. We recommend staying here for the budget-minded traveler.
