Great location, poor food variation and quality
Great location and near the beach. The variation and food quality in the buffet restaurants is POOR. They have ala carte but then they force you to get up at 7 am to book a table. Please be aware of time share sellers when you arrive. They call it «hotel tour», but in reality they are trying to sell you memberships. We used 1 1/2 our of our holiday listening to one of the sellers. Waste of time.

Very nice atmosphere , great people and excellent staff . Some work to do in the cleaning specially in bathrooms and room . I booked a estándar double beds room and a king size bedroom was the only one available and I was traveling with my mum 😳…according to them my 4 months ins advanced booking did not guarantee separate beds . That was not pleasant but Mexican people are great ! That changes everything !thank you

I should've listened to the reviews. The reviews were spot on. The food was horrible with limited options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not a breakfast person so grew tired of the eggs, salad and black beans for breakfast by day 3. You have to book one of the 2 special restaurant by 7am with very low end options and the same food everyday there too. Some days only 1 was available. Upon check in we were given the key to a room that was already occupied with the guest personal belongings exposed. Thankfully they weren't present how horrifying would that have been for all. We left immediately to report it to the front desk and the guy wanted to keep it hush with no apologies for the inconvenience. The beach is rough with surfer waves everyday. No umbrellas provided to relax on the beach unless you pay $20. Never experienced that at an AllInclu. They didn't change the bed sheets for the week we were there just made up the bed. I booked a king size ocean view and they gave me a dbl bed ocean view. The wait staff and bar tenders were nice that's the one positive experience that exceeded my expectations. Along with that it's in walking distance to the stores and the strip to catch a bus to the hotel zone. No entertainment on site that I can remember during the day or night.

This property’s customer service was terrible. I called 7 different times and was disconnected 5. They were rude and unhelpful. They told me different things every time I actually spoke with someone. I was on hold for over 20 minutes.

I would never recommend this hotel. Our room was run down, beyond what one would expect in a cheap hostel. Stains on floors, plastic shower door with huge scratches, baseboards that were falling apart. Our air conditioning did not work the first night our room was over 26.5 degrees-it was nearly impossible to sleep. We eventually got moved to another room the next day- but still the air conditioning barely worked. It never got any cooler than 23 degrees in our room. The “sea view” Room that we booked with a balcony was not the room that we originally got. We were told that the balcony as identified on the Expedia website when booking the room was not guaranteed. Our room was rarely cleaned-only once during our weeks stay did we actually have a full clean. We had to continually ask for face cloths or hand towels. Sheets were old and so worn through in some places you can see right through them. My son is celiac and there were very limited options-despite the hotels website and Expedia confirming there were good options for him. Only 2 a la carte restaurants totally booked by 730am. So you had to wake up early and stand in line to not eat at the buffet. Food options were not great-best food we had was in Xel-Ha or Isla mujares -which we had to pay for. Most times food was cold in buffet. Sat through the membership presentation as we were told we would get a refund at the airport-false-lost our money. Would not recommend this resort.

Checked in, our door was open. Door would not close completely. Strong wind would blow door open. Next day requested to fix. Supposedly fix. On day 3, same issue. Couldn't leave room, missed dinner reservation. Finally demanded a new room. They did agree to move us. Then...the power went out over the entire hotel zone from about mid night to 6 am. Then out again around 8am to approximately 10am. The food was bland and same thing daily. The "Italian" restaurant...laughable...nothing Italian except some bland pizza squares. NO PASTA in the Italian restaurant. Best food experience was Mexican restaurant-- and "Uncle" Daniel was THE BEST. He was always there to help and provide info. Overall, I simply would not recommend Occidental Tucancun..It needs a complete overall. And the location is just not desirable!!! Located behind a mall and hospital!!

Everything about the property met expectation. The only thing tourist don’t like was the check in policy. It would be convenient if they have option for the early incoming guest that came from another country. We arrived at the hotel at 7:30 am and needed to wait till 3pm to be able to rest in the room, considering we left the US 5:00pm one day prior.

This hotel is old, the room we had was dirty, the bartenders are slow, the food is terrible and they cater to 20 year olds on spring break. Music at pool was ridiculous and the lobby bar had one singer in the evening for 20 minutes and that was it. Not even any music playing. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed in the premium family suite; huge 2 bed/bath with adjoining door. Buffet was typical of all inclusives. Nice variety of nightly entertainment. Love the snack stations, stocked with foods for all meals as well as a coffee machine. The pools were clean and beach was steps from the pool, unfortunately no umbrellas on the beach. The waves were a bit rough since it’s the sea, probably not great for small children. The hotel is behind the Kukulcan Plaza, a bit bare just some souvenir shops but a great grocery store on the upper level. Hotel didn’t offer airport transfer so pre booking is required.

Fantastic spring break spot for college students. It was a nice mix of other college students but still extremely nice. The bars in the hotel closed around 11 but frequently promoters came making it easier to get transportation to club. Food was delicious, no stomach aches here :)

Just returned from Occidental Tucancun. Let's start with the positivies! The view and beach front is great. We had a couple staff that made our stay a little better. Pablo the bartender was so friendly and welcoming! Maria, the server that walked around pool side all day and was amazing. Will at the front of the resort. He was very helpful. That about sums up the positives. Now for why we will NEVER return. 1. Staff-Not helpful or do not care. Just rude. 2. We had two rooms and came with another couple who had two rooms and we had to reprogram our key cards constantly. 3. One of the rooms, no air! 4. Two of the rooms had no cold water, what does that mean, no toilet, or showers until this was fixed. 5. Upon arrival, one of the rooms given was not even cleaned from the last guest. 6. Elevators not always operational and smelled like puke. 7. All areas, public bathrooms, pool area, dining, not properly cleaned. 8. To use an umbrella, you had to locate a pin to open it and they do not have enough for the amount of umbrellas and when you ask for one they laugh at you and basically say they are around ? Like what? They were so RUDE. 9. The food! OMG, so absolutely disgusting! 4 of the 8 travels had the diarrhea and major stomach cramps. Not sure what from but.... 10. Rooms/resort are so dated and tired. It was spring break week with a bunch of kids and noise, that was NOT even a concern at all. Just say NO! Go somewhere else!

The staf was very friendly and helpful. The pools were kept very clean and all the public areas were constantly being cleaned and well maintained. Our room sometimes did not get towels after the cleaning. And one night there hotel had no A/C.... other than that is was a great vacation!

We stayed there probably 10 years ago and had a room that the air didn’t work. This year we were assigned the same room and again the air didn’t work so they assigned room 2018 which is directly over the laundry which is very annoying. Ten years ago we were assigned room number 1017 which was really bad. The resort needs major facelift but overall for the price it was fine we spend everyday in the beach and it is still the best beach in the worold

We had a great time. Better than we expected. My gf has been to other all inclusives in other countries and they didn't compare in the least. Every staff member was courteous and friendly. They all spoke English well and were patient with our Spanish. Will at the entrance who held our bags while we checked in was informative with any inquiry and recommendations. Segundo in the Seafood restaurant was such a pleasant waiter and very professional. As was Carlos in Mexico Lindo the Mexican restaurant on property. You need to make reservations for the restaurants early every day/on the day of if you want to eat a la carte. Everything was clean and well maintained. The pool was refreshing and not overly chlorinated. The many bartenders were excellent, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. They made our stay very enjoyable. Pablo at the La Claraboya pool bar makes the best Bahama Mamas, just saying. If you are not interested in a vacation club sales pitch, be careful of accepting an invitation of a tour on your 1st day. However, if you can afford the cost of membership and travel often, they are a reasonable value for what you get and they have many affordable options.

Location is great for the value. Staff and food options are great. Bedroom could be a bit TLC but for the price the location is amazing.
